Careers
The Career Center in Benson Memorial Center provides a
variety of services to assist students and alumni in clarifying,
planning, and achieving their career goals. A professional
staff of counselors offers career counseling to individuals
and groups. Through individual appointments, a dedicated
career counselor assists students with self-assessment,
development of job search strategies, and self-marketing
techniques. In addition, the Career Center coordinates a
wide range of programs that bring professionals from various
fields to campus to present information about career opportunities.
The Career Center maintains regular contact with hiring
employers. Job opportunity listings are received daily from
numerous organizations and are available for review on BroncoTrak,
an exclusive password-protected site within the comprehensive
Career Center
Online. The Career Center offers extended office hours
during the academic quarters to accommodate the schedules
of graduate students. The Center’s extensive career
resource lab houses a wide range of reference materials
on self-assessment, career fields, and job search techniques.
Six computer workstations, a printer, and a copy machine
are also available to assist students with their job searches.
An on-campus teacher interview program is held in early
spring, hosting hiring officials from Bay Area public and
private schools who seek teaching credential candidates
for secondary and elementary positions. An annual counseling
practicum fair enables students to interact with employers
from the mental health community.
The Career Center staff also takes active leadership roles
in professional associations, such as the National Association
of Colleges and Employers, the Western Association of Colleges
and Employers, the California Association of Counseling
and Development, and the California Education Placement
Association.
