The mission of the Cypress RLC is to increase student awareness about local and global environmental issues and to help students develop habits of living and decision-making that are more environmentally sustainable.
Cypress is rooted in a commitment to a sustainable future where, generation after generation, a healthy environment sustains healthy lives for all people. Issues of justice and equity are central to discussions of sustainability: the key question is how to improve the situation of people around the world without degrading the environment upon which we and future generations will depend. Through courses, activities, and discussions,
Cypress community members apply knowledge and skills to formulate, discover, and communicate an understanding of a sustainable future and to develop sustainable ways of living—in the residence hall and beyond.
Cypress welcomes students from all majors. Cypress courses fulfill University Core Curriculum requirements and provide a strong foundation for a major or minor in Environmental Studies. Classes include world geography, English, biology, chemistry, calculus, and an RLC course on sustainability.
