TECHNOLOGY EQUIPPED CLASSROOMS

Each classroom has, as a minimum configuration, an overhead projector and screen. Several classrooms are also equipped with slide projectors, televisions with VCRs, or data/video projection capability.  A room-by-room listing of classroom equipment installations is also available.  If you encounter problems using these facilities, or would like to make suggestions for improvement, please contact the Director of Media Services at 554-4915.   Requests for additional equipment are accepted and provided on a first come first serve basis by contacting Media Services, x4520.

VIDEO

Selected classrooms on campus are equipped with monitors or video projectors allowing "self service" playback of videotapes.  These systems are accessible by checking out a key from Media Services.

COMPUTER PROJECTION

Use of computer projection in the classroom in 1996-97 increased 28% over the previous year, and 130% over 1994-95. Faculty and students are using a variety of applications - including internet connection, spread sheets, simulations, and presentations packages - in the classroom.

Faculty and student needs for computer projection are being met with a combination of permanently installed and portable systems. Data Projectors are permanently mounted in the following classrooms: O 105 (data monitor), B 210 (computer classroom), B 236, B 331, E 101, E 326, and E 602, as well as in many of the Business School classrooms (K 102, K 104, K 212, K 214, K 216, K 218, K 306, K 308). Faculty and students can hook up their laptop to these systems or request a laptop be delivered from Media Services. IF using their own laptop, presenters should test their  laptop compatibility with a particular room system prior to use.  For assistance in testing the in-room systems with your personal laptop, please call Ruth Ellison, x4648.

The remaining classrooms are served by portable projection systems - a color LCD panel with an overhead, or a data projector - which are delivered to the classroom with a laptop or can be hooked up to the presenter’s laptop. IF using one of Media Services portable systems for the first time with their own laptop, presenters should arrange a time to test their laptop compatibility with those systems. For assistance in testing the portable systems with your personal laptop, please call Ruth Ellison, x4648.

To order computer projector services, please call Media Services, x4520.

CLASSROOM ETHERNET CONNECTIVITY

Many of the classrooms on campus have ethernet ports allowing connection to the campus wide network and the internet. Connecting your computer to a campus ethernet connection requires that you have an ethernet card in your laptop or pc and have a novell account on campus. If a  guest presenter is bringing their own pc, they can log onto the campus network if they have an ethernet card, a cat 5 data cable, and novell netware from any educational institution installed on their computer. They will, however, be limited to internet connection and not be able access any campus server. For access to the university servers, they must have an scu facutly or staff member's password.
