![]() Retail Studies Program Internships A chance to put classroom theory into practice and refine managerial skills are the benefits of the 10-week, full-time internship usually completed during the summer between junior and senior years. Students are placed with major retail organizations nationwide. The bottom line is getting started in a career, and retail studies graduates find themselves well-positioned in a challenging job market. Internships often serve as career stepping stones. The Retail Management Institute faculty and staff work closely with students to identify ideal internships and evaluate students' progress during their assignments. This personal attention pays off - many students are hired back by the company for which they interned. The institute also sponsors events such as executives in residence, career workshops, and company visits for retail studies students. These are frequently organized in cooperation with SCU Career Services. Since its founding in 1980, two-thirds of retail studies graduates have chosen retail management as a career. Any student who completes the program has an almost sure shot at a junior executive training program. Graduates have started their careers at a long list of leading retailers, including DFS, Emporium, Esprit, The Gap, Gottschalks, Home Depot, Macy's, Canned Foods Grocery Outlets, Mervyn's Nordstrom, JCPenney, Safeway, Strouds, Wal-Mart, and Williams-Sonoma.
