A spring highlight for RMI students is the opportunity to attend the Annual Retailing Reception.
This year, DFS Group Limited graciously held the event on April 11 at the historic Palace Hotel in San Francisco. At this beautiful location, current students, alumni, professors, RMI Advisory Board members, and many retail company representatives gathered together to discuss the exciting world of retail. The ambiance was elegant, the attendees helpful and experienced; together the function was invaluable and rewarding.
Between bites of delicious hors d'oeuvres and sips of sparkling beverages, students were able to meet and mingle with an accomplished group of professionals hailing from diverse retail backgrounds. We had the opportunity to receive first-hand advice and discuss career paths in the retailing industry through casual conversation. The face-to-face time to talk to retail company representatives from GAP, DFS, Williams-Sonoma, Trader Joe's, and others was informative, useful and at times eye-opening. As students, it was great to gain access to the wealth of knowledge that each attendee had to offer. The personal environment and direct contact with such prominent players in the world of retail nurtured our excitement toward our internships this summer!
As current students in the RMI program and future summer interns at DFS, this event provided an unforgettable forum to speak with influential figures in retail, ask any questions we may have had regarding our own futures in the field, and increase our networking skills. The reception deepened our anticipation and enthusiasm for experiencing the corporate side of retail tenfold.
We would like to give our thanks and appreciation to Mr. Michael Schriver, DFS president of merchandising, for hosting the event. His consistent support has enabled RMI participants to engage with professionals with a breadth of experience, enriching our understanding of retailing today. The reception proved to be an integral asset to the Retail Management Institute and we look forward to the upcoming year.
