Retail Management Institute StaffThe Retail Management Institute draws on the strengths of the entire University. Retail Studies Program courses are taught by professors from departments across campus. Institute staff include Director Dale D. Achabal, Research Director Stephen A. Smith, Associate Director Cynthia M. Gamage, Kirthi Kalyanam, Director, Internet Retailing, Retail Management Institute, Office Coordinator Danielle M. Gustafson, RMI Media Coordinator & Graphic Designer Paula Tager and Programer Jerry Currie Dale Achabal, L.J. Skaggs Distinguished Professor, earned his Ph.D. in marketing and regional economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Achabal is active in research focusing on the development of decision support and knowledge systems, productivity analysis and retail patronage. The author of many articles in scholarly books and journals including the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science, Journal of Retailing and Decision Sciences, he has presented papers at professional and industry conferences across the country and in Europe and Asia Pacific. Stephen Smith, Ph.D., J.C. Penney Research Professor earned his Ph.D. in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University and was with Bell Labs and Xerox PARC before joining the Operations & MIS faculty at Santa Clara. His research interests involve the application of computer models to pricing, merchandising and supply chain activities within corporations. He has published over fifty articles in scholarly journals including Operations Research, Marketing Science, Journal of Marketing Research, Management Science and the Journal of Retailing." When Cynthia M. Gamage joined the institute in 1982, she had worked for 10 years in various merchandising and personnel management positions and was the director of executive and college recruitment for Bullock's North. She had also developed the Junior Executive Training Program and has overseen employee relations for an executive group of more than 300. She is a graduate of San Jose State University. Gamage works closely with advisory board members, retail executives, and students in coordinating the institutes three programs. Kirthi Kalyanam J.C. Penney Research Professor in the Department of Marketing, Research Director in the Retail Management Institute and Director of E*Business Initiatives at the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. Dr. Kalyanam's expertise is in Retailing, Channel Marketing, E-Business and Geo Demographic Marketing. Danielle Gustafson is the Office Coordinator for the institute, she joined RMI in 2001. Paula Tager joined RMI in 1993, she is a RMI's Graphic Designer. Jerry Currie is the Systems Programmer for the institute, he joined RMI in 1994. |
