The San Jose Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League is one of 112 J.A.C.L. chapters within the nation and one of 34 chapters within the Northern California Western Nevada Pacific District. Started in 1930, the Japanese American Citizens League is a non-profit organization that focuses on education, human and civil rights.

Overall it goals include:

Protection of the civil and human rights of Japanese American, as well as securing rights for all people

Preserving the Japanese American culture and values

Participating in the increase in understanding between social and ethnic groups

Promoting and sponsering activities which encourage members to perform their obligations and duties to America

The Japanese American Citizens League also provides scholarships for outstanding students and artists, as well as assisting in legal counseling and litigation for cases involving discrimination.
