SCU Faculty Latin Jazz Ensemble
The SCU Faculty Latin Jazz Ensemble features two SCU Professors
--Peter Minowitz (Political Science) on piano and Steve Nahmias
(Business) on trumpet--in addition to an SCU alum (drummer Carlos
Almeida '91), a Stanford Political Scientist (saxophonist John
Ferejohn), and several prominent Bay Area musicians. The band's
repertoire includes sambas, bossa novas, Afro-Cuban "Salsa," Calypso,
and Latin-infused compositions by jazz giants such as Duke Ellington,
Charley Parker, and Dizzy Gillespie. The band members also perform
other types of modern jazz (especially swing, bebop, and fusion) at a
variety of Bay Area locations.
