MEChA stands for Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano Aztlan. MEChA's general purpose is to promote the preservation and development of the Santa Clara Latino/Chicano community. MEChA aims to create an environment conducive for the development of identity and awareness of the Raza student by promoting a cultural, social, political, and academic consciousness. MEChA also strives for principled unity among the Santa Clara Raza community. Solidarity among Santa Clara Raza is the foundation for all social and political activities. Brotherhood and Sisterhood not only unites us but makes us stronger and better able to deal with the pressures we face as students of color. One of MEChA's major events is the week-long festivities, including workshops and events, to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
