The Portuguese Organization for Social Services and Opportunities was created in 1976 as a non-profit charitable organization to provide the Portuguese speaking community with social services and opportunities. The only organization of its kind in California, POSSO also strives to promote the interests of the Portuguese community and improve their quality of life.

POSSO attains these goals by becoming a bridge to the greater community through providing recreational, social, cultural and educational activities. They also mobilize resources to help with other events that concern the Portuguese community.

The majority of their efforts has culminated in the Portuguese Community Center which offers a variety of services to promote POSSO's goals. Please see the article on the Portuguese Community Center for more information.
