School Financial Aid

Financial assistance from the School of Education, Counseling Psychology, and Pastoral Ministries is awarded on the basis of financial need. Scholarship monies are available to students from all programs (except non-degree, in education and counseling psychology). Students who wish to be considered for a scholarship, fellowship, or grant must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students eligible for tuition scholarships must complete an additional form, available from the Graduate Services Office Web site.

Scholarships, Fellowships, and Fellowships

Kenneth E. Blaker Endowed Scholarship

Awardees are selected by the Counseling Psychology faculty for academic achievement in the study of cognitive/behavior psychology and its application in a clinical/education setting. The Blaker scholarship is awarded annually to a student in Counseling Psychology. Applicants must have completed 45 units and have a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Fellows Scholarship

Education and counseling psychology students who are enrolled full time (at least 9 quarter units) and demonstrate financial need may apply for scholarship monies from this fund. Students must apply annually through the Graduate Services Office. A scholarship committee selects recipients.

Edwin J. Brown Fellowship in Teacher Education

This fellowship is provided by an endowment from the late Edwin J. Brown, professor of education. This scholarship is for credential students. 

Jim and Pauline Mahon Endowed Scholarship

This fund was established in 1988 by Lee Mahon, Ed.D., to provide financial assistance for a graduate student in the Educational Administration program. Applicants must demonstrate an innovative vision for education and a strong commitment to the field of administration. Recipients must also demonstrate a concern for children and strong sense of the value of education.

Janice M. Kyne Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established on July 31, 2007 by Mr. Jack Kyne in memory of his wife, to provide financial assistance to graduate students enrolled in the Special Education program.  Candidates must have completed at least nine units of work in Special Education with a minimum grade point average of 3.3 and must demonstrate financial need.

Gerald E. McDonald Graduate Scholarship in Education

Any student in teacher education, special education, or educational administration who has completed at least one-third of his or her program while maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or higher may apply for this assistance.

Tuition Scholarship for Educators in the San Jose Diocese

A 20 percent tuition scholarship is available to full-time teachers, counselors, and administrators employed by the Diocese of San Jose who are taking graduate courses in the School. Tuition scholarships are available to qualified degree and non-degree students.

In addition to the conditions specified by the donors, all scholarships administered by the University are subject to the following conditions:

1. In selecting students for scholarships, the School requires evidence of financial need. Students who wish to be considered for a scholarship, fellowship, or grant must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Preference will be given to students with high scholastic achievements.

2. Applications for scholarships must be submitted every year.


3. Forms are completed once for the entire academic year. Please check the Graduate Services website for deadlines and forms.

4. Scholarships may be canceled at any time for serious infractions of University rules and regulations.


5. Generally, undergraduate applicants receive priority consideration for the different financial aids for which both graduate and undergraduate students are eligible to apply.
