Become a Tutor

Throughout the year the Drahmann Academic Advising and Learning Resources Center hires peer tutors to assist fellow students in specific subject areas. This position is rewarding and flexible. It can be customized to both your skills and your schedule.

Benefits of becoming a tutor include:

  • A flexible job that can be customized to your schedule and skills;
  • Wages that start at $8.50 for undergraduate students and $10.00 for graduate students;

To become a tutor you must:

  • Be committed to learning, have a positive attitude, and be patient with students;
  • Have at least a “B+” in the courses you wish to tutor and at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA;
  • Participate in a mandatory orientation;
  • Participate in bi-quarterly tutor staff meetings;
  • Turn in tutoring session logs and submit online timesheets through ecampus every two weeks;
  • Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing materials, and consulting with instructors and Drahmann Center staff members.

To apply you must submit an application, including two references, one of whom must be a faculty member at Santa Clara University. Both of these references should be able to speak to your academic and interpersonal skills. The factors that contribute to our hiring decisions include the content of your application, feedback from references, and academic performance.

Print and complete the application below and return it to the Drahmann Tutoring Center in Benson 1 or come pick up an application. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please note, math and science are the two most heavily requested subjects.

Academic student groups and honor societies can organize Drop-In Tutoring sessions to fundraise or complete volunteer - work hours. Contact us for more information in Benson 1.
