Bill Adams '37 writes with news about the Class of 1937 Endowed Scholarship. Started during the 1986-87 school year, the fund has provided more than $370,000 in scholarships over the years in five categories: arts and humanities, social and natural sciences, business, engineering, and intercollegiate athletics.

William Wolff ’40 writes: “At 94+ enjoying life in beautiful Santa Barbara at a senior living residence. Few SCU people in area.” (He also underscores, literally, that SCM is an “excellent magazine.”]

Cornelius Buckley, S.J., ’50 celebrated his golden jubilee of priesthood in March, when, to honor his life of service, his family and friends established a scholarship fund in his name at Thomas Aquinas College for financially challenged students. There, he is the head chaplain and assistant dean for religious affairs. Buckley has spent much of his academic career in Jesuit institutions—earning multiple degrees, teaching, and serving in administrative positions. His publications include the book When Jesuits Were Giants, Your Word, O Lord … Meditations for College Students and Anyone Else, and a translation of Simon Decloux’s The Ignatian Way. Freshman Dorm: Day Student/Off Campus

Ronald C. Diebel ’62 writes: “Living in San Jose ‘significant other’ Nancy and three cats. I have been practicing medicine for over 40 years.”

Paul L. Peterson ’65 retired in 2007 after nine years as founder and CEO of Aurum Consulting Engineers, a professional electrical engineering consulting business in Monterey, Calif. Aurum continues in operation.

John Cody ’66 writes that he was named a Top 1000 Financial Advisor by Barron's Magazine this year. John has spent more than 40 years helping clients at Merrill Lynch achieve their financial goals. He is married to Victoria Cody ’66, and works with his sons Brian and Patrick in the Century City branch of Merrill Lynch.

Jim Charkins ’66 has been granted the highest honor of the California Council for the Social Studies, the Hilda Taba award. The award is given to an individual who has demonstrated organizational leadership; involvement in policy development for social studies; collection and dissemination of research bringing innovation to the field; and distinction as a teacher, teacher educator, and curriculum developer. Last October in Chicago he was presented with the Bessie Moore Award for outstanding national leadership in economic education. Charkins is professor of economics at California State University, San Bernardino, and executive director of the California Council on Economic Education. Jim and his wife, Linda Jackson Charkins ’66 live in Wrightwood, Calif.

Kathleen (Meehan) Thuner ’67 writes: “Director, North County Fire Protection District; director, Mission Resource Conservation District; director, American National Standards Institute.”

Michael Murphy ’69 writes that his current position is solutions developer, Acxiom Corp.

Mark Janlois ’69 is a partner in Janlois Partners, LP, which owns and manages commercial properties in Contra Costa County.

Bruce Bottini ’70, J.D ’74 writes: “I am a trial lawyer in Portland, Ore., specializing in personal injury law, in practice with my wife, Marianne, and son John for over 25 years.”

Mike Friedrich ’71 received a Certificate of Ministry Studies from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, Calif. in May 2012. Mike is currently enrolled in the Master of Theological Studies program at PSR. He is active in his home church, Berkeley Methodist United Church, conducting adult religious education classes and chairing the Worship Committee. Recently DC Comics reprinted in the hardcover collection Justice League, vol. 10, the comic book scripts that Mike wrote during his senior year at Santa Clara. Keen eyes will spot the SCU references in the backgrounds.

Nancy A. (Battaini) Del Colletti '71 is the Executive Director of Rainbow's End Recovery Center in Challis, Idaho, a new substance abuse rehabilitation facility she established.

Anna Likos ’72 writes: “I am currently living in Morocco, working for the CDC as the resident advisor to the Ministry of Health. After 2.5 years in Haiti and 2 years in the Ivory Coast, Moroccan life is wonderful! I expect, though, to return soon to the U.S., to which my husband and I are both looking forward.”

John Fox '73 writes: "I am a Foreign Service Officer for the US State Department, now on assignment to the US Army War College in Carlisle PA as a Professor of International Relations."

Greg Lamb MBA ’74 is a principal at EnergyOurWay.com LLC, an energy services consulting company. Lamb has 30 years of experience in the process and energy sectors. He and his wife, Pam, are enjoying their four grandchildren and live in the Salt Lake City area.

Patrice (Koda) Coyle ’74 is serving her second term as chair of the Dignity Health Sacramento Service Area Board and was honored to meet President Obama, White House senior staff, and congressional leaders in February. She continues to serve on the boards of Cristo Rey High School and Mercy Foundation and joined the California Hospital Association’s Governance Forum in 2011.

Terence “Terry” Phillips ’75 is a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives seat in California’s new 23rd congressional district. As a CBS News foreign correspondent, he covered the collapse of the Soviet Union as well as conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, and Haiti. He has also served as a public affairs executive in the wireless telecommunications industry. Phillips is the author of Murder at the Altar (a historical novel) and Off the Air: Thoughts About Our Quality of Life (a collection of his radio commentaries). He now lives in Bakersfield, Calif.

A Bay Area native, Mr. Kane holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Santa Clara and received his Juris Doctorate from Hastings College of Law at the University of California.  Prior to joining DMB, Mr. Kane was founding partner of a pre-eminent real estate and land use law firm in the State of Arizona and has served on numerous boards, commissions and advisory groups, including the Arizona State Land Conservation Advisory Committee, the Transportation Policy Advisory Committee of the Maricopa Association of Governments, and the Board of Directors of Tiempo, Inc., developer, owner and manager of low-income affordable housing units in Arizona (affiliated with Chicanos Por La Causa).  For his work with Tejon Ranch, Mr. Kane received the California Governor’s Environmental Leadership Award.  

Tim White J.D. ’77 writes: “Married, four children, three grandchildren, employed by PNC Bank as EVP/chief operating officer–multifamily, Calabasas, Calif., residing in Thousand Oaks, Calif.” 

James B. Hawkins ’77 has been appointed to the board of directors of Digirad Corporation, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging products and personnel and equipment leasing services, and will serve as chair of the Compensation Committee. Hawkins has more than two decades of experience as chief executive of successful medical device companies. Since April 2004, Mr. Hawkins has served as the president, CEO, and a director of Natus Medical Incorporated, a provider of healthcare products used for the screening, detection, treatment, monitoring, and tracking of common medical ailments such as hearing impairment, neurological dysfunction, epilepsy, sleep disorders, and certain newborn conditions. Prior to joining Natus Medical, Mr. Hawkins was president, CEO, and a director of Invivo Corporation, a developer and manufacturer of multi-parameter vital sign monitoring equipment, and its predecessor from 1985 through January 2004. Mr. Hawkins also served as Secretary of Invivo from 1986 until January 2004. Mr. Hawkins has served as a Director of IRIDEX Corp. since October 2007. Mr. Hawkins holds an undergraduate degree in Business Commerce from Santa Clara University and holds a M.B.A. from San Francisco State University.
