Keng, Diane

Diane Keng ’14 presented two papers last fall at the IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things 2014 in Taiwan, and the IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics in San Diego; and she's recently teamed up with Ph.D. candidates in Germany to research big data. They recently presented two papers at the International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations (ICEIS) in Las Vegas, and the International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS) in Spain.

Hessler, Thomas

Thomas Hessler ’14 has moved to Buffalo, New York, where he’s a member of the d!g co-working space. Hessler is technical operations manager at Trainersvault, based out of Los Angeles, and executive project manager for Cuore Technology, out of Santa Clara. He’s been charged with building out the business and tech teams at each of those companies, with the hires taking place in Buffalo.

Guibord, David

David Guibord ’14 was recently interviewed by MTV News about raising awareness and finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease. Last year Guibord joined Hilarity for Charity, Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller’s groundbreaking organization that encourages college students to spread awareness. Their biggest event, HFC U is a fundraising competition between universities. The schools that bring in the most money get amazing prizes, including a meet and greet with Seth. Last year Guibord helped Santa Clara come in second place.

Dedoshka, Kelsey

Kelsey Dedoshka ’14, a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard, participated on the Career Aspirations Panel of the Aspirations in Computing program, a talent development pipeline initiative of the National Center for Women & IT designed to increase women's meaningful participation in computing careers by providing encouragement, visibility, community, leadership opportunities, scholarships, and internships to high potential technically inclined young women. Aspirations in Computing is the only national-level talent development program for young women in computing and information technology.

The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing program engages young women interested in technology and computing. By generating visibility for these young women in their local communities, the program encourages their continued interest in computing, attracts the attention and support of educational and corporate institutions, and emphasizes at a personal level the importance of women's participation in computing and IT.

Silva, Martin

Martin O. Silva, S.J. M.Div. '15 is one of 28 Jesuits ordained into priesthood this summer by the Society of Jesus, the largest order of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church. Silva, 53, was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. He received an MBA from Pepperdine University. Missioned to the Jesuit School of Theology, he earned a Master of Divinity degree while serving as a deacon at San Quentin State Prison. After ordination, he will serve at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Hollywood, California.

Caleb Scherer '15 received the Isabel Jones Academic Achievement Prize and the Delta Sigma Scholarship Key. He was nominated by faculty for exemplifying the mission of the University, as well as for demonstrating academic excellence, leadership, and dedication to the Leavey School of Business. With a degree in finance, he currently works full-time for a commercial real estate firm.

Rugo, Albert

Albert James Rugo J.D. '15 has accepted a position with an intellectual property rights law firm in the Bay Area. He will begin this fall upon passing the bar exam. Rugo credits David Yosifon with being a great teacher and mentor. In his first year of law school, Rugo received a personal letter from the Hon. Richard E. Tuttle, a former Calaveras Superior Court judge, who encouraged him to complete his studies, noting the profession needed more young people with both ambition and compassion.

Mok, Rico

Rico Mok '15 was named the 2015 Outstanding Student Entrepreneur. This honor is awarded annually by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in recognition of significant achievements in the program, acknowledgment of accomplishments in entrepreneurship, and the promise of future success.   

While at SCU, he worked on his initial startup, BuildACircle, as it evolved into Moments-Remembering the past (www.ourmoments.co). Rico then co-founded OneRent (onerent.co) in 2014 with fellow Broncos Greg Toschi ’16, Arman Dezfuli-Arjomandi ’15, and Chuck Hattemer ’16. It has streamlined the infrastructure of the property management industry. From a group of four co-founders, “We were fortunate enough to have many great fellow Broncos join us, from investors to coworkers,” they write. “We are proud to say that a majority of the 19 person team is fellow Bronco students and alums!”

Olivia Li '15 received the Student Life Award to recognize her contribution to improving the overall quality of life in the Santa Clara University community. She was a CF for two years and then an ARD her senior year. She also worked in the Undergraduate Business Programs Office for three years as a programs assistant. She is currently studying for and taking the CPA exams, then starting in January she will be heading to Georgia to volunteer with Jubilee Partners teaching refugees English for six months. Next fall she will start at KPMG as an audit associate.

Climaco, Julian

Julian A. Climaco, S.J. M.Div. '15 is one of 28 Jesuits ordained into priesthood this summer by the Society of Jesus, the largest order of priests and brothers in the Roman Catholic Church. Climaco, 40, was born in Cebu, Philippines, and lived there until he was 10, when his family immigrated to Los Angeles. While earning a Master of Divinity degree, he used his nursing skills to help at a free medical clinic (Street Level Health) for immigrants and the poor in Oakland. He says the connection to the Society of Jesus sort of came full circle when he joined since he had attended Sacred Heart School (a Jesuit primary and secondary school in Cebu, Philippines). It has since changed its name to Ateneo de Cebu.
