Holm, Kyle

 

Kyle Holm ’96 has joined the San Francisco office of Hay Group, a global management consulting firm. Kyle Holm was a founding principal with Presidio Pay Advisors, where he consulted on the design of cash and stock-based compensation programs for a varied range of public and private companies. His work covers all elements of compensation, including base salary, annual incentives, and long-term incentives with significant expertise in stock option allocation modeling. Prior to Presidio Pay, Kyle held consulting positions with Watson Wyatt Worldwide and WestWard Pay Strategies. He is an instructor for the Northern California Human Resources Association’s Professional Development program and a contributor to WorkSpan magazine.

Hewitson, Matthew

Matthew Hewitson '96 has taken over as principal at Lincoln High School in San Jose. Hewitson joined the San Jose Unified School District in 2000 as a football coach and social science teacher at Gunderson High School. He came to Lincoln in 2007 to serve as assistant principal of summer school and since 2008 has been assistant principal of guidance.

Hansel, Justin
Henry Hansel ’70 and son Justin Hansel ’96 oversee the largest group of car dealers in Sonoma County, a business with $288 million in sales last year. Henry Hansel is the son of the group’s founder, Walter C. Hansel, and is president of the Hansel Auto Group, which has four dealerships in Santa Rosa and three in Petaluma. Justin Hansel, one of two group general managers, is the fifth generation in the transportation business.

Amanda Groves J.D. '96 joins Winston & Strawn LLP in its Charlotte office. A veteran commercial litigator, Groves has been a partner in the firm's San Francisco office and is chair of the firm's Diversity Committee. She has represented consumer-product companies in complex commercial litigation. Besides successfully representing consumer-product companies and national retailers in numerous high-stakes class actions based on state and federal consumer protection laws, Groves is noted for resolving state-wide and national litigation involving financial institutions' loan origination transactions and collection practices.

Allan Evans MBA '96 has been appointed CEO of Samplify Systems Inc., provider of intellectual property for computing, consumer, and mobile device markets. Evans will lead Samplify to the next level in its corporate evolution by focusing the company, and its next-generation APAX(TM) application acceleration technology, on multibillion dollar markets including high-performance and cloud computing, Big Data, consumer electronics, and mobile devices.

According to Al Wegener, CTO and founder of Samplify Systems, "Allan has been with Samplify since its beginning. He keenly understands Samplify's value proposition and how the company's powerful acceleration technology can solve data bottleneck issues wherever multicore processors are used. We are confident that he will skillfully lead Samplify's growth and business development as the company steps up to address huge market opportunities with its APAX technology."
 
"For the first time Samplify has a technology in APAX that can address high-volume computing, consumer electronics, and mobile device markets," says Evans. Evans has a proven track record of building new businesses. Mr. Evans was a founder of Stanford Telecom's Wireless Broadband Products subsidiary (acquired by Newbridge Networks for $340M), where he was responsible for system architecture and product development before leading the marketing activities. At Netro Corporation, Mr. Evans led marketing activities for Netro's second generation broadband fixed wireless platform, leading to a successful IPO at over $1B valuation. Mr. Evans also played a leading role in Netro's acquisition of Project Angel from AT&T Wireless. At Savi Technology (acquired by Lockheed Martin for $400M), Mr. Evans led several strategic RFID initiatives for real-time asset tracking, wireless sensor networks, service-oriented architecture, RFID encryption, and wide-area tracking using GPS, satcom, and cellular. Mr. Evans holds an MSEE from the University of California at San Diego and an MBA from Santa Clara University.

Wendy Clerinx ’96 of Hilo, Hawaii, has been named part of Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s policy team to oversee policy initiatives and legislative issues. Clerinx serves as Policy Director. She worked for Abercrombie for 10 years in Washington, D.C. when he was a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Clerinx began as his legislative assistant in 2000 and was promoted to Legislative Director, where she worked extensively on many issues, including the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act, and legislation advancing the nation’s movement to renewable energy.

Kenton D. Chow '86, MBA '96 has joined Wine.com, the nation's No. 1 online wine retailer, as Chief Financial Officer. In this newly created position, Chow will oversee the finance functions, business development, mergers and acquisitions and investor relations. Chow brings more than 25 years of experience in high growth public and privately held companies. Prior to joining Wine.com, he was the Chief Financial Officer at a number of high technology companies in Silicon Valley, including Aurora Networks, Catena Networks and Cobalt Networks. His experience includes leading a successful IPO, mergers and acquisitions, including Sun Microsystems' $2 billion acquisition of Cobalt Networks, and over $350 million raised in multiple equity and debt financings. He also held senior financial management positions at Sun Microsystems, Symantec, Bay Networks and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. (Chow holds a M.B.A. and B.S. in Finance from Santa Clara University. He is a certified public accountant in California and also served on the Advisory Board for the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University.

Shelyna Brown J.D. '96 was appointed as a judge to the South Bay's 79-member bench by California Gov. Jerry Brown.

Shelyna Brown, 41, has been a public defender in San Jose since 1997. Like the governor, she is a Democrat. A graduate of Santa Clara University law school, Brown takes a seat vacated by the retirement of Judge Eugene Hyman. She will be one of four African-American judges on the local bench.

Sam Bhaumik MBA '96 joined Square 1 Bank, a diversified financial services company, as an executive vice president and head of Silicon Valley. Bhaumik, who brings more than 25 years of debt financing and investment experience, will be a member of the senior leadership team. Prior to joining Square 1 Bank, he was senior managing director with Hercules Technology Growth Capital. He also spent two years as the New York Stock Exchange's vice president of the western region and was co-founder of the emerging growth division at Imperial Bank (which was later acquired by Comerica). Bhaumik also previously served as a vice president with Silicon Valley Bank's Technology Group.
