A Message from the President - January 2014

The Twelve Days of Christmas have come to an end and the New Year is off and running. I hope the holiday season was filled with many blessings for you and your loved ones. The season of Christmas is also the season of giving. This year our Bronco athletes gave of their time and talent to share the Christmas spirit with others. The Women’s Basketball team had a full line-up of activities that included Christmas caroling at a retirement home, visiting pediatric patients at Stanford Children’s Hospital, and writing Christmas letters with 5th grade pen pals at Washington Elementary School. The team got their fans involved by holding a game promotion for Soles4Souls at their game against Georgia State and collected shoe donations for the organization’s anti-poverty effort. In a sign of solidarity, our coaches coached the game in their bare feet! Thank you to our Bronco athletes who take to heart the call to give to others in need.

We are now in the heart of the admission season, and our applicant pool continues to be very competitive. Once again we had record-breaking numbers in the pool of early applicants. Over 4800 applicants applied for Early Action (an increase of 11% over last year) and 207 applied for Early Decision (an increase of 6% over last year). The academic quality of the early applicants was incredibly strong, and as a result, we admitted over 20% more students than last year while increasing the academic profile. The Regular Decision deadline of January 7 is here and we expect to receive 9,000-10,000 Regular Decision applications. All indications are that the admittance rate will be more selective than last year to reach a target enrollment of 1300 students in the incoming freshman class. An additional 140 transfers will be selected from an anticipated 900+ transfer candidates.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Engh, S.J.
President
