A Message from the President - October 2013

Convocation

Before our students arrived on campus last week, the faculty and staff gathered together for our traditional start to the new academic year, the President’s Convocation. A recent trip to El Salvador helped frame my remarks for the Convocation address and posed important questions for reflection as we begin a new year. A transcript of my remarks and a video recording of the event are available online.

Month of Remembrance

Looking ahead to November, traditionally held as the Month of Remembrance in the Catholic Church, we shall recall our deceased loved ones and offer prayers for their eternal peace in the Lord. The University invites you to submit your personal prayer requests for departed family and friends. Through the online request, the names of your special intentions will be placed in the Book of Names in the Mission Church for remembrance throughout November, beginning at the Mass for the Feast of All Saints on Friday, November 1. Mass that day will be at 12:05 p.m. A Misa en Espanol will be held on November 7 at 8:00 p.m. Throughout November, the Book of Names will remain on display in the Mission Church. May the prayers we offer throughout the month bring a sense of peace and consolation to all of us who have lost loved ones.

Sincerely,

Michael E. Engh, S.J.
President
