Alumni for Others: New Orleans Book Drive 2008

Celebrate the Association's Anniversary by Helping Katrina Victims

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans more than two years ago, it destroyed lives, homes, businesses and libraries. On the 2nd Annual SCU Alumni Immersion Trip to New Orleans this past January, the volunteers also learned how great the need is for children's books. Today we are asking for your help to replace them!

Here's How:

Buy It: Purchase a Barnes and Noble Gift Card of any domination and send it to the SCU Alumni Office. We will send it to the Volunteer Donations Coordinator in New Orleans, who has a discount contract with Barnes and Noble. You may also visit Barnes and Noble online to purchase a gift card and have it sent directly to SCU.

Bring It: Bring a new or gently used copy of your favorite children's book (no textbooks please) to an alumni event in your area. We will then ship these books to New Orleans.

Contribute It: For those who want to do more, a donation of $250 will allow Recovery School District to purchase a full set of classroom books (30).  The donation can be from one family or multiple families and should be mailed to the Alumni Office.

The next shipment of books and gift cards will depart for New Orleans on August 15, 2008. Please send all donations to:

Checks can be made out to Santa Clara Alumni. All monetary and in-kind donations are tax deductible and a donation letter will be provided to you for tax deduction purposes.
