Come Join Us as We Build Homes for Needy and Deserving Families

In participation with Amor Ministries, a non-profit interfaith organization whose mission is to provide housing for the poor we will spend four days constructing homes using basic materials and simple hand tools.  Alumni will have the opportunity to immerse themselves with the local community and see firsthand the poverty and living conditions that these individuals are faced with on a daily basis.  This is a great opportunity to meet new friends, reconnect with old ones, meet current students, & help transform a family's life forever.

Reflection from a Fellow Alum:

The Mexico Immersion trip was a connection to my past, a glimpse into our future and a re-connection with the SCU family.  The human in us was daily exhausted, but the humanity in us was greatly exalted.  The experience brought back the value, and the values, of a Santa Clara education.  The connection to the land of my parents was powerful.  San Jose to Tijuana, for me, seemed like a world away.  But then, so was my jouney from East San Jose schools to Santa Clara University.  Working with SCU students in the land of my father was peering into our furture.  That my own daughter (Kiara, SCU '12) was there, working daily at my side, made that future personal and compelling.  The value and values of our Santa Clara education was made real, everty hour, every long day.  The Santa Clara family at this immersion trip made a difference in the lives of our fellow human beings.  A family received housing, humble in its construction yet lasting in its impact.  We received much more.  "You've come so far to help people you don't even know," said a family matriarch in Spanish as they received the keys to their home.  "We have nothing to give you, we will never to able to repay you. But I know that God will bless you."  We have been blessed, we have been paid.  Let's pay it forward, let's do it again.
