SCU Alumni For Others Program

Santa Clara University's Alumni for Others (AFO) program enables alumni and friends of the University to make a real difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
  • Together with your friends and family, you can explore volunteer opportunities in your local community.
  • You can build houses in New Orleans or Mexico as part of volunteer groups led by the SCU Alumni Association
  • In honor of the anniversary of the Alumni Association, which was founded on April 27, 1881, we designated April as our National Month of Service.
  • During our National Month of Service, we will share success stories of chapter AFO projects as well as promote upcoming projects.

To find out more about the AFO program, please contact Mary Modeste Smoker '81, assistant director of community service and spiritual programs at msmoker@scu.edu

AFO: Alumni Immersed in Service

"I am happy and grateful to be doing service work in Europe. My wife and I moved to Belgium over eight years ago to teach English to adults, after we had both left our corporate and consulting business careers. It is one way that I can give back for the absolutely beautiful start to life that I had in San Francisco in the 1940s and 1950s."
