Spring Reunions are Just around the Corner
May 16-18, 2008

The countdown has begun for the Alumni Association's Spring Reunion.  There are less than two weeks until the classes of 1983, 1988, 1993, 1998, & 2003 return to campus for a weekend of festivities.  Set for May 15-18, 2008, the weekend will include events such as a Golf Tournament and Fiesta de Santa Clara Reception on Friday and Academic Showcases, Homecoming Picnic, and Class Dinners on Saturday.

Is your class not celebrating a reunion? No problem, join us for a round of golf in the Golf Tournament, step back into the classroom (without quizzes or tuition) Saturday morning for an Academic Showcase, or bring the family for an afternoon of fun at the Homecoming Picnic.

Help to Rebuild School Libraries in New Orleans!

When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans more than two years ago, it destroyed lives, homes, and businesses. On the 2nd Annual SCU Alumni Immersion Trip this past January, the volunteers also learned of the devastation to school libraries and the great need for children's books. Today, we are asking for your help to replace them!

Please visit the New Orleans Book Drive online to learn of the many ways that you can help.

Commencement 2008 Speakers Announced
June 13 & 14, 2008

It's commencement season and the University is gearing up for the festivities. This year President Paul Locatelli, S.J. '60, will deliver the commencement speech for the school's undergraduate class of 2008, and philanthropist and venture capitalist B.J. Cassin will address candidates for graduate degrees.

The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to have Locatelli as this year's speaker, a departure from the usual practice of inviting a speaker from outside the University for the undergraduate ceremony, "This is a way of honoring him for his 20 years of service as president, and also provides an opportunity for him to speak to the graduates about the meaning of their Santa Clara education both from his perspective as president and as secretary for Jesuit higher education," said Mike Markkula, chairman of the University's Board of Trustees.

SCU a Mighty Fine Place to Work

Santa Clara University was selected as one of the best places to work in the Bay Area . According to a joint survey conducted by the San Francisco Business Times, the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, and the East Bay Business Times, Santa Clara University ranked No. 10 in the "big companies" category, for businesses with 501 to 1,500 employees. Other top Bay Area employers in this category are Webcor Builders, HOPE Services, and Brocade Communications. Santa Clara is the only higher education institution in the top 10.
