The Santa Clara Magazine is in the Mail... and Online Now

Fr. Engh is here to listen, lead, and help write the next chapter for the university—and an interview by Ron Hansen M.A. ’95 gives some wonderful insights into the man and his ideas. Speaking of presidents, two Broncos are part of Obama’s team: Leon Panetta ’60, J.D. ’63 and Janet Napolitano ’79. Read profiles of both. Then see how more than 20 Santa Clara alumni are putting social justice, simple living, community, and spirituality on the map with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps.

Plus, explore the amazing world of webspinning insects with Professor of Biology Janice Edgerly-Rooks, learn the banjo with Mitch Finley ’73, and read about Santa Clara’s own “Return of the Ring.” Catch up on Class Notes, take a peek online for Web exclusives, and use the online form to send us your news and to update your address.

Presidential Speak Series Continues March 11th

Dionne is a liberal, a Catholic—and an optimist. He believes America is about to enter a new progressive era. In his most recent book, Souled Out: Reclaiming Faith and Politics After the Religious Right, Dionne argues that American religion is undergoing a renaissance and will emerge as a liberal force pushing social justice, education, health care, peacemaking, and concern for the poor and elderly.

A National Book Award finalist for Why Americans Hate Politics, Dionne is also the author of They Only Look Dead: Why Progressives Will Dominate the Next Political Era and Stand Up, Fight Back: Republican Toughs, Democratic Wimps and the Politics of Revenge.

The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Mayer Theatre and will be followed by a book signing. Tickets are available for $25 each and can be purchased online.

Watch a video of E.J. Dionne on the President’s Speaker Series Web site.
