TRADITION SHATTERED

In the fall of 1961, Santa Clara became the first coeducational Catholic university in California.  After 110 years as an all-male institution, the University broke with tradition and enrolled 84 undergraduate women: 63 freshmen, 15 sophomores, five juniors, and one senior. Their time on campus was a stark contrast from campus life today. They were required to follow a long list of strict rules or risk being disciplined or expelled. Now, 50 years later we take a moment to honor their esteemed place in Santa Clara's history and their determined Bronco spirit with a 50th Anniversary Celebration. Welcome to the Class of 2015

The campus was bustling on Sept. 19 as 1,275 freshmen embarked on their college careers. For the fifth consecutive year, SCU received a record number of applicants: 13,342, 12% more than last year. Of those admitted, 61% are from CA, 37% are from 37 states, and 1.6% are international. Read More »

Celebrating a Century of Engineering Excellence

This academic year marks an exciting time for alumni, students, faculty, and staff of the School of Engineering, as they mark their 100th anniversary. Engineering Professor Dies in Car Accident

Santa Clara mourns the loss of Daniel Strickland, a mechanical engineering assistant professor, who passed away in a car accident on Friday, Sept. 23. Strickland taught thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, served as a senior design faculty advisor, and was recently named a Roelandts Fellow. Beloved by his students and colleagues alike, Strickland had a passion for Santa Clara, a commitment to Jesuit education, and dedication to student learning. Read More »  


SCU Law Professor to Receive the IP Vanguard Award

Eric Goldman, director of the Santa Clara University School of Law’s High Tech Law Institute, has been awarded the IP Vanguard Award by the State Bar of California’s Intellectual Property Law Section for outstanding contribution to the field of intellectual-property law. Read More »
