Archives & Special Collections Access and Use Policy

  1. Archives and Special Collections materials are non-circulating and available to students, faculty, staff, courtesy card holders and the general public for use in the Norman F. Martin, S.J. Archives and Special Collections Reading Room.

  2. There is no charge to use the Archives and Special Collections.

  3. Researchers are required to register with the Reading Room attendant and check in/out daily. Picture identification is required.

  4. No eating, drinking, or chewing gum is permitted.

  5. Researchers must exercise caution when handling special materials.  Only laptops and pencils may be used for taking notes.  When using photographs, researchers and staff must wear white cotton (darkroom) gloves.

  6. Permission is required to copy or publish portions of materials.

  7. Copying services are available for a fee. Materials are copied by staff only. Some materials, because of size or condition, may be copied only at the discretion of the staff. See Fee Schedule for appropriate fees.

  8. Digital photography may be allowed at the discretion of the appropriate staff.

  9. Santa Clara University Archives and Special Collections must be credited on all photographs and documents used in publication.  One copy of a publication in which a photograph from our holdings is used must be submitted to the Santa Clara University Archives.
