University Records

The University Archives maintains the permanent historical records of Santa Clara University, from its founding in 1851 to the present. The records document the governance, administration and academic pursuits of the institution, through the Board of Trustees records, Presidents' papers, and records of Academic Affairs, Student Development, Business and Finance, and University Relations and records of the schools, colleges and academic departments. The records are available for research within the context of the University Records Access Policy.

These records are organized into record groups according to their office of origin.  Property records, financial ledgers, registrars' records, Treasurer's records, and Minister’s logs are among the oldest extant records, dating from the late 1850’s. The collections also include records of the Seismological Station (1910-1974) and of the SCU Weather Station.

The Archives maintains copies of all University publications, including the student newspaper (The Santa Clara), the yearbook (Redwood), course catalogs and bulletins (1855-present), programs and recordings of events, news releases, and clipping scrapbooks. Photographs of students, faculty, events, and the University campus (1855-present) are available for study and exhibit. An oral history collection supplements information provided by these documents.
