CHAMPS Life Skills

The Department’s commitment to student-athletes’ academic development is evident in all of the programs and services supported by the Academic Resource Center.

The Department’s commitment to student-athletes’ athletic development is evident in the nineteen varsity sports it sponsors as well as the six club sports and numerous intramural offerings available to students. Additionally, Santa Clara University provides first class equipment, training facilities and competition venues for its student-athletes.

Programming designed to enhance student-athletes’ personal development includes sports psychology panel discussions, drug and alcohol awareness presentations and hazing and sexual assault prevention training.

Student-athletes’ career aspirations are supported by collaborative efforts between the Academic Resource Center and the Career Center. Last year’s Fast Break Career Night, co-sponsored by the Career Center, Communications Honors Society and the American Marketing Association provided an assortment of networking opportunities for student-athletes interested in pursuing careers in marketing, media relations, sports communications and sports marketing.

As a Catholic University in the Jesuit tradition, service to others is a fundamental part of a student-athlete’s education. Bronco Athletes Serving in the Community (BASIC) was designed to help facilitate Santa Clara student-athletes’ collective desire to give back to the communities in which they live and go to school. The importance of service to others is reinforced by the prestigious Red and White Society’s membership requirements; members are required to provide at least 20 hours of community service per year.]

  •    The membership of the Red & White Society embody the ideals of a Santa Clara University student-athlete. Exhibiting a commitment to excellence in the classroom, on the field and in the community, members of the Red & White Society are varsity student-athletes who maintain a 3.3 cumulative GPA and perform at least 20 hours of community service per year. Each Spring, the members of the Red & White Society will be recognized at the Department’s Academic Awards Banquet.]
  •    In the near future, I will provide you with a number of links to educational articles that discuss various aspects of academics and athletics.
