Ruff Riders: The group supported the idea of having two Ruff Riders be part of SAAC next year. Social events: Relay for Life: Various teams will be doing the Relay for Life this weekend. Support is always welcome! Senior Awards Recap: Overall Senior Awards was a positive event that was well attended and had good participation by all sports. Some suggestions for next year included not having the team summaries, reading the descriptions of the awards as they were presented, and to keep it shorter. It was also expressed that the group needs to take more responsibility in planning and in making sure that their seniors get recognized. Athlete’s Ball: Tickets are on sale and prices went up this week. It is now $50 for a couple or $30 for a single. In addition there is now a bonus team package where 10+ tickets can be purchased for $20 apiece. Make your team get in front of Leavey at 7:30 for the buses! No athletes are to get hotel rooms after: everyone must take a bus to and from the dance. CHAMPS Life Skills: The sports psychologist panel will be the week of June 5-9. The group chose Tuesday as the preferred day at 7PM. The speakers will be Holly Brown of the training room, Matt Panero, who has worked with the baseball team, and Denise Fabrese, who was worked with the softball team. Each team should try to get at least a couple of people to attend. Discussion on Goals for Next Year: The group continued the discussion from last week on goals for the upcoming year. Many ideas were discussed, including moving Playa’s Ball to fall quarter, greater publicity, and competition between sports. Ideas for a SAAC trip were also discussed and included camping, going to a baseball game, or going to the horse races. Guest Speakers: George Husack (Men’s Tennis Coach), and Michelle Pikor and Scott Heinrichson (SCU Sports Medicine) addressed the group. George had a few funny stories and shared how far athletics at SCU have come. The student-athletes here are one of the reason’s he’s stayed for so long. Scott and Michelle spoke about the training room staff and about their work. Everyone in the training room works hard to take care of us, and there is a ratio of 1:100 for full time athletic trainer staff to student-athletes. |
