  • Goodbye

    Thursday, Jun. 12, 2008 at 10:36 AM

Well this is my last blog post.  I am done with my freshman year in college and it has gone by faster than I could ever imagine.  Looking back on this year, I have realized the amount of things I’ve done, friends I’ve met, and stuff I’ve learned.  I have definitely changed since the beginning of this year and I think I am a much better person now than I was then.  I just wanted to say thank you all who have read this throughout the year and especially my mom since I think she makes up the majority of people reading it.  I hope this has helped some prospective students gain a better insight as to what the first year at Santa Clara is like.  Thank you.  This has been a good experience and one that I know I won’t soon forget.

  • Semi-Summer... kinda...

    Wednesday, May. 28, 2008 at 6:37 PM
It is now crunch-time! I have two papers and a project due next week and then 3 finals the week after that. It is really a time to focus now. It’s been hard though since it’s such nice weather and all my friends are on summer break already. With summer right around the corner, I have to focus on getting a job and on summer lacrosse teams as well. I hope to work as a landscaper, cutting down trees for my dad, or maybe at Red Rocks Amphitheatre as a security guy. I don’t know what I am going to do yet but it should be figured out by the time I get back.
  • Week 8

    Wednesday, May. 28, 2008 at 6:37 PM
Well this weekend was crazy. My friend Garrett flew out from Denver to see Charlie Kay down in San Diego and then they both drove up on Wednesday once Charlie was done with finals. Then, my other friend Zach flew out on Thursday and they all hung out here until that Sunday. It was so cool being able to see them since I hadn’t seen Zach or Garrett in 5 months and Charlie in 2. Unfortunately, they all got to go home afterwards and I’m still here doing homework and studying. It’s weird to think that my freshman year in college is almost over. We are starting to find storage spaces and figuring out what I’m going to bring home. As much as I like it here, I’m definitely ready to see my family. My brother and sister get out next week and I’ll still be in classes.
  • Days of Summer

    Wednesday, May. 14, 2008 at 11:22 AM
    Hey ya’ll,
Well there’s only a few weeks left in the quarter and it is really starting to pick up. It is going to be 105 degrees tomorrow and everyone is lying out in the grass between classes. It’s really cool to see all the people out instead of sitting in their dorm rooms all day. The only bad thing is that we don’t have a pool this spring because it’s being remodeled. Luckily there is plenty of places to get ice cream to cool down. We sign up for our rooms tonight for next year and it is pretty weird since last year at this time I had just decided I would go to Santa Clara.
  • Cinco de Mayo

    Wednesday, May. 7, 2008 at 12:35 PM
    Hey everyone,
Well last week was hectic. I had three midterms in one day and then finally made it to the weekend. Since it was Cinco de Mayo on Monday, there were a lot of parties on campus with mariachi music and everything. On Saturday night, Kelly and I went to downtown San Jose for dinner at P.F. Chang’s. It was awesome to see the city with her. We came back and watched Little Rascals and Hercules, which may not sound like typical college movies but they were a lot of fun. This week is going to be pretty calm I think. Tomorrow night is Mr. RLC which is this beauty pageant/ talent show for guys living in the dorms. Each dorm chooses one guy who has talent, humor, and a good personality and my RLC, Modern Perspectives, chose the one and only Pat Delves.  He is a lock to win so hopefully the competition won’t go on too long before they announce his victory.
  • Sibling Weekend

    Monday, Apr. 28, 2008 at 11:49 AM
Well it’s almost May and the weather is showing it definitely. In our game on Saturday against Sonoma State, it was in the high 80s. We lost by 9 and it was pretty sad to see all the seniors realizing they were done with college lacrosse forever. On the flip side though, I have a ton of extra time in the afternoons, which is going to be nice since my classes are really hard. I have three midterms this week so that will be stressful. Tonight the Rockies play the San Francisco Giants in baseball and James, Kyle, Peter, and I are going to the game on the CalTrain. My sister, Rian Fugier, Emily Fritz, Courtney Bzdelik, and Danny D’Costa were all here over the weekend and I think they had a lot of fun. Kelly and Peter took them all to Santa Cruz on Saturday and I really think they liked the school and kids here. Luckily it was nice weather for them to be here. It was awesome seeing Kristen, my sister this weekend. She stayed with Kelly and I think they got along together well. Everyone seemed like they had a great weekend. It’s just a shame that the week has already started again.
  • Starting it Off Differently

    Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2008 at 12:16 PM
    Hey ya’ll,
I have decided to start this entry differently than what I have ever done before. The lacrosse team made it to playoffs for the first time in a long time when we beat Cal Poly 10-9 down in San Luis Obispo. Now we are ranked in the top 25 nationally and are playing Sonoma State this coming Saturday. Kelly got really sick this past weekend so I got to take care of her for a couple days, which may not sound like much fun but I really enjoyed it since I could help her for once since she’s so independent normally. It has been fairly cold lately so I am kinda bummed since this is far from what I signed up for. I tried to play beach volleyball with everyone but it was so windy that the sand was cutting up all our legs.
This weekend is going to be awesomely crazy. Besides my game on Saturday, my sister Kristen, my friend Rian Fugier, Peter’s sister, Emily, Danny D’Costa, and Courtney Bzdelik are all coming to visit. All of them go to Regis and some are looking to come here. I am really excited to see my sister because I haven’t seen her since Christmas. We are gonna have so much fun and I’m really excited to see them all.
  • Santa Cruz and Hot Hot Heat

    Tuesday, Apr. 15, 2008 at 3:57 PM
Well this last weekend was awesome but really hectic. I got out of class early on Friday and got to play some beach volleyball all afternoon until lacrosse practice. Kelly and a bunch of other girls went to the Rascal Flatts concert that night so I hung out with Brennan, Kyle, James, Peter, and Trevor until she got back. On Saturday I had an early practice and then took a quick nap and drove down to Santa Cruz with Peter, Brennan, Trevor, and Jake. We were stuck in traffic on the way down there but when we got there, we played some beach volleyball with a ton of people in front of the boardwalk and then jumped in the ocean for a little bit. We went to the boardwalk for lunch and then started to head back. Little did we know that the highway was closed because of a motorcycle accident. We were stuck in traffic for 3 hours! As bas as it sounds, it was actually kinda fun. We made some friends with all the people we were next to, picked up some license plates on the side of the road, and did a Chinese Fire Drill where everyone gets out runs around the car and gets in other seats. We made a bunch of people laugh with that. On Sunday, I had a game up in Davis. We won 5-3 but it was int eh low 90s by game time so I don’t think that I have ever sweat more than I did. That night I had mass with Kelly and that was the end to a really fast weekend. This week should be kinda difficult since I have quizzes and tests coming up soon so I have to start studying soon.
  • Reno, Nevada

    Monday, Apr. 7, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Well this weekend is done and the second week of the quarter is on its way. This weekend was incredibly fast. I went up to Reno with the lacrosse team to play University of Nevada. We won 16-5 but it was absolutely freezing the whole time. I had always assumed that Reno was in the desert but I did not think it was in the mountains with such a high elevation. My mom came out this weekend to see a Bruce Springsteen concert and then came to my game with our friends Bob and Kathy Crawford. It was really nice seeing all of them, especially my mom. After not seeing her in a long time, even though it was short is was great seeing her.
  • April Fool's Day

    Tuesday, Apr. 1, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Happy April Fool’s Day! I have been a victim of a big prank. Kyle and Kelly decided to put about 7 alarm clocks hidden in my room and set them for different times of the night. I ended up not having any sleep at all but it was a good prank so I laughed it off. My classes are all really exciting this quarter. I am taking Communications 2 and Political Science 25 which are both really cool and I can’t wait to see how they turn out. My other two classes are Formal Logic and Finite Math. Those two won’t be too bad but I am taking those for requirements even though they’ll be interesting. I have 3 more weeks of lacrosse I think. We play University of Nevada at Reno on Saturday. My mom is coming in to visit me this weekend too. I can’t wait to see her again since I saw my dad and aunt this past week in Florida. Ok I got practice. I’ll write soon.
  • Spring Quarter

    Tuesday, Apr. 1, 2008 at 10:23 PM
Hey everyone. Well spring quarter has officially started. My spring break was pretty fun but kind of uneventful. In Florida, we beat Central Florida but lost to Florida and Florida State. It was pretty chilly the whole time so I didn’t even get a good tan in. On Wednesday night after the FSU game we drove all night from Tallahassee to Orlando. As bad as it sounds, it was actually a lot of fun. Hanging out with the guys on the team on that whole bus ride was pretty enjoyable and then hanging out at the airport early in the morning was fun. On Thursday, I spent the night in the dorms before I flew out on Friday to San Diego. It was really weird because no one else was here so I had practically the whole campus to myself. I flew down to San Diego to see my friend Charlie at U.S.D. with Peter Fritz. We were there the whole weekend and I got to meet all his buddies down there. While we were down there, we went to Coronado Island and Mission Beach. It was a lot of fun and a good spring break overall.
  • Spring Break

    Friday, Mar. 21, 2008 at 3:28 PM
Hey well finals are completely over and now I am on Spring Break! I had two finals this week that went pretty well. For Spring Break, I am going to Florida with the lacrosse team. We’re playing Florida State, U. of Central Florida, and U. of Florida. They’re all pretty good but we have a solid chance of winning. My dad is flying down to see me play and we’ll get to see my aunt Dale while we’re down there. I’m really excited. I fly back on Thursday and then fly to San Diego to see my friend Charlie Kay who goes to school down there. It’ll be a lot of fun to see him and some other people who are down there. Overall, I think this Spring Break will be a great one to start college off with. I can’t wait!
  • St. Patrick's Day

    Sunday, Mar. 16, 2008 at 3:27 PM
Hey y’all. Sorry I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been pretty busy since it’s dead week. We’ve had a lot of work to do. I went to a concert this week at the HP Pavillion. It was Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood and it was a lot of fun. I tried to get into the country music atmosphere, so I busted out my cowboy boots and a Canadian tuxedo (jeans and a denim shirt). We had horrible seats but that made the concert much more fun I think. Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day so everyone was walking around campus wearing green. I attached some pictures of all my friends who were dressed up. Now we’re getting ready for the NCAA basketball tournament. Some of my friends are pretty into it, so we’ll see how that works out. My friend Kyle Casey has been helping me study for our math final tomorrow so he is really cool.
  • Dead-ly Week

    Monday, Mar. 10, 2008 at 7:40 PM
    Hey everyone.
Well it’s already week 10 and finals are already coming up. This quarter has completely flown by. This past weekend, Eric Johnson’s girlfriend Viv was visiting from Villanova. She was really cool and could actually keep Eric in line, which was very surprising. Yesterday, I went down to Santa Cruz and up the famed Highway 1 with Kelly. It was easily the most scenic drive I have ever seen. The road bends up the whole coast and is only a few yards from the ocean at times. I attached some pictures of the drive. We played Stanford last Saturday and lost 9-8 in the last 2 minutes so that was a big heartbreaker but we play San Jose State this weekend and then go to Florida to play so it should be a nice change. Tomorrow night I am going to the Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood concert with Kaylie and Kelly so that will be a lot of fun. I gotta get back to studying so I’ll talk to ya’ll later in the week.

  • Sand Volleyball and Lacrosse

    Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2008 at 9:49 AM
    Hola!
Sorry it’s been so long but this weekend was pretty hectic. We won both of our games this weekend but on Friday night I twisted my knee in the fourth quarter and probably tore part of my meniscus. I have to get MRIs and see doctors all week. I’m not excited for it but I’m still walking so that’s a good sign. Housing applications opened this week and I am applying to live in Dunne again with James. Current students can also request what rooms they want to live in so hopefully I’ll be neighbors with everyone I’ve been hanging out with next year. They had an internship fair last week for freshmen and sophomores with some big companies and it got me thinking about what I am going to do this summer. I am currently applying for an internship at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this summer but if I don’t get that, I’ll hopefully be able to work on some campaigns for the local candidates. I’m sorry I haven’t been taking too many pictures recently. I keep forgetting my camera in my room. I attached a picture of me and Eric after one of our games and I also attached one of Kelly, Eric, and me at the beach one night.

  • Summer in February

    Tuesday, Mar. 4, 2008 at 9:48 AM
    Hey everyone,

This coming weekend is gonna be awesome. I can’t wait. We play Cal Berkeley on Friday night under the lights, which will just be fantastic since we’ll have so many, fans out. Then on Saturday I am going out to dinner with Kelly, Eric Johnson, and his girlfriend, Viv, who’s visiting from Villanova over her spring break. We play Gonzaga on Saturday which should be another easy win so this weekend is looking to be fantastic. The weather here has been absolutely gorgeous. I am now sleeping with a fan on my bed every night to stop the warm weather a little. Since it’s the eighth week in the quarter, my teachers are starting to ease up and let us prepare for our upcoming final papers and tests. I am actually a lot more nervous this quarter than I was last quarter because my classes are so hard. Okay I’m gonna go outside and lay in Mission Gardens. I’ll write soon.
  • Bone Thugs Concert

    Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at 10:15 PM
    What’s up guys,
Last night was awesome. Bone Thugs-n-Harmony came here to play at the Leavey Center with Girl Talk and Jupiter Rising opening for them. I got to work backstage with the bands and set-up and take down of the stage. It was a really cool experience but I ended up cleaning until 3 in the morning so I was pretty tired this morning. It’s been raining all week, which has been kind of a bummer but I am definitely ready for this weekend to come. It’ll be really hectic so we’ll see. I am already getting stressed out. Talk to you soon!
  • Parents' Weekend

    Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at 10:14 PM
    Hey everyone,
Sorry it’s been a while but things have been crazy. We had parents’ weekend a couple days ago and it was fantastic! I loved seeing my parents and they got to meet everyone here so it was a great time. We all went out to dinner a couple times and they got to see me play a couple times. We lost to Texas A&M on Saturday but it was a good game and we had a huge crowd. On Sunday we played Saint Mary’s College and beat them pretty badly then we got to have a big barbeque with all the parents and some friends. It has been a great time. Ok talk to you soon!
  • Happy Valentine's Day!

    Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at 11:35 AM
    Hey everyone,
Well Happy Valentine’s Day! It has been fairly obvious this week that love is in the air. There are candy-grams, flower deliveries, and couples holding hands all over campus. It is probably even more obvious being that it has been 70 degrees and cloudless the whole time so everyone is outside. On Tuesday, I fell asleep doing homework in Mission Gardens and was woken up a couple times by a certain girl who won’t be named this time but each time I woke up, I thought I was in heaven. There were palm trees shooting up into the crystal blue sky, birds flying quietly high above me, and her next to me laughing. Ironically, back home my old high school got a snow day and Denver is buried in 6 inches of snow. As much as I miss the snow, I can’t help feeling that I am in a better spot right now. This weekend is parents’ weekend and mine are flying out for two of my lacrosse games and to see everyone here. I’m getting really excited for that because I haven’t seen them in over a month and a half. Ok I gotta run to Ethnic Studies class. I’ll write soon.
  • Midterms

    Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at 10:41 AM
    Hey everyone,
Sorry it’s been so long. I easily had the busiest and hardest week yet last week. I had practice every night and then had a mid-term, two papers, a quiz, and a presentation to prepare for. Luckily I got everything done and made it to the weekend. On Friday night I went to dinner at Santana Row with Kelly Nightengale, Eric Johnson, and Emily Entress. We went to Pizza Antica and were going to just go across the street for some ice cream but decided to drive down to Santa Cruz to get desert there and to hang out on the beach. It was easily the most phone I’ve had this quarter.
The next morning I had a lacrosse scrimmage against Notre Dame de Naimur, a small Division II school just north of here. We lost 19-6 but I started so that was pretty cool. I was actually really nervous the whole time and the freezing rain didn’t help much. That night I hung out with Kelly again as well as Kaylie Rossi and a bunch of kids from Swig Hall. On Sunday, James and I had everyone in our room to watch the Super Bowl, which was a lot of fun even though I was rooting for the Patriots. Sunday night I just worked on some homework and went to Mass.
It’s finally starting to get warm here again so I am really excited to wear shorts again. This week is a little easier than the last one but still pretty hard since I have two mid-terms to study for and then this weekend we play our first game against Sonoma State, who is ranked 14th in the nation for club teams. It’ll be pretty tough but I think we could definitely pull off an upset. James and Kyle Casey are going to Las Vegas this weekend for a Frisbee tournament that looks pretty fun but I will be pretty lonely all weekend. I’m a little excited to have the room to myself though. It will be a pretty mellow weekend for me since I have that game so I need to focus on that and then I’ll probably work ahead on some homework and play a little beach volleyball.
