Directed Study
For students enrolled prior to Fall 2005 with a GPA of 2.33-2.67 after their first year
Students beginning the second year of study with a GPA of 2.33-2.67, inclusive, including students readmitted following successful completion of the California “Baby Bar” exam, shall be subject to the Program of Directed Study. A student shall be excused from the program of directed study if, at the conclusion of a second year of law study or thereafter, the student achieves a cumulative GPA over 2.67.
Students entering their second year of law study with a GPA over 2.33 and equal to or less than 2.67 will be given priority for enrollment in Advanced Legal Writing and Analysis: Writing (373b) each year. Students must register for this course through the Law Records Office by completing an add/drop form prior to the start of the registration period.
In addition, the Program of Directed Study requires:
1. Completion of the following courses on a graded basis (i.e., P/NP precluded): all required courses, Criminal Procedure (310), and at least two of the following courses: (a) Business Organizations (248), (b) Wills and Trusts (281), (c) Community Property (290), and (d) Remedies (324).
2. Full-time students must complete Advocacy (105), Constitutional Law I (200), Constitutional Law II (201), Evidence (320), and at least two other courses tested on the California Bar Examination, in the second year of study.
3. Part-time students must complete Advocacy (105), Criminal Law (106), Pleading and Civil Procedure (114), Constitutional Law I (200), Constitutional Law II (201), and Evidence (320), in the second year of study.
For students enrolled on or after Fall 2005 with a GPA of 2.33-2.80 after their first year
Students finishing the first year of law study with a cumulative GPA of 2.33-2.80, and students readmitted to the Law School following successful completion of the California “Baby Bar” exam after first year disqualification, are subject to the Program of Directed Study. Students subject to the program of directed study remain subject to the program until graduation regardless of improvements in their GPA.
Students subject to the program must, like all students, complete all required courses and, in addition, must:
1. If a full-time student, complete Constitutional Law II (201) and Evidence (320) in the second year of law school and, in the case of part-time students, to the extent possible, complete Criminal Law (106), Pleading and Civil Procedure (114), Constitutional Law I (200), Constitutional Law II (201), and Evidence (320), in the second year of law school

4. Meet with the assistant dean for academic and professional development or the senior assistant dean for student services, or their delegates, as soon as feasible after being identified as subject to the program, to discuss (a) the reasons for their inclusion in the program, (b) the purpose of the program, and (c) class scheduling for their ensuing years in law school.
