James Sepe

Associate Professor

James F. Sepe is Associate Professor in the Accounting Department, Leavey School of Business and Administration, Santa Clara University. He joined the faculty in 1979 after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Washington.  Additional degrees include an M.B.A. from UC Berkeley (1971) and a B.S.C. from Santa Clara (1969).  He is a CPA and his practice experience includes two years on the audit staff of a large, international public accounting firm.

 

Dr. Sepe’s teaching interests are mainly in the financial accounting area, teaching courses in introductory and intermediate financial accounting at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.  His research interests concern financial reporting issues and the use of financial information by capital markets.  He has published in The Accounting Review, the Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Financial Management, the Journal of Accounting Education, and the Journal of Forensic Accounting.  He is a co-author of an Intermediate Accounting textbook published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin that is now in its fourth edition.

 

Dr. Sepe’s professional service includes significant involvement with the Western Region of the American Accounting Association.  He has served as program chair and proceedings editor, vice-president, and president for the Western AAA.
