Stan Anders is the Office Managing Partner for Silicon Valley and the Western Area Partner in Charge of KPMG's
Transaction Services practise, based in Mountain View. His focus is on high technology industries. He provides
both due diligence and structuring advice to buyers, as well as capital advisory services to early stage and
middle market companies. He joined KPMG in 1997 having spent 12 years in senior level financial positions in
industry with several public and private companies, including three start-ups. Prior to that, he worked in Philadelphia
and London for 12 years with a major accounting firm.
Stan's extensive experience includes participation as CFO in two initial public offerings, completion of a three-way
highly-leveraged merger in the medical device industry and several acquisitions of products and businesses in the
pharmaceutical and medical technology industries. He has participated in numerous due diligence and transaction
assignments both from the company side and as a financial advisor. Since July 1, 2000, he has completed in excess
of 100 due diligence engagements on high technology companies. In his various positions in industry, in addition to
his financial responsibilities, he has also directed the investor relations, human resources and legal departments in
both a public and private company environment. Mr. Anders' clients include Synopsys, Intuit, Motorola and CalSTRS.

him during his 34-year career within the Big Four and as CFO for three tech companies. This is your chance to

Michael C. Knowles, is the Partner In Charge of the Services to Business Division of Frank, Rimerman & Co., LLP.
He received his degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has extensive
experience providing technical accounting, financial reporting and business advisory services to business in the
high technology, manufacturing, professional service and general commercial industries. Mike has served as the
Chairman of the AICPA National Accounting and Auditing Advanced Technical Symposium (2002 and 2003) and
has contributed to widely used guides on accounting for income taxes, business combinations and accounting
estimates. He is a member of the California Society of CPA's and American Institute of CPA's, the American
Society of Appraisers and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
More and more accountants and auditors are faced with the prospect of understanding sophisticated business
valuation analyses prepared in connection with the requirement to present fair value information. This seminar
can be a tall order for someone that has little or no experience in the business valuation field. Mike will talk about
the field of business valuation, how and why valuations get prepared, and will use a case-study approach to
discuss some of the basics of business valuation concepts and practises.

Scorecards and dashboards are means of providing information to protect the assets of the corporation, ensure
there is enough cash to sustain the business and provide timely and accurate information to make sound business
decisions. As a financial leader, Jeff Osorio, will share his experiences with these tools and his practical and get-it-done
approaches to Corporate Finance.
Jeff Osorio, an alumnus of both SCU undergraduate and MBA graduate programs, is a seasoned financial executive
with over twenty-five years of experience with Silicon Valley icons such as Cypress Semiconductor, Silicon Graphics,
Spectra-Physics and Atari. With a collaborative style and open approach, Jeff is recognized by peers and staff as a
leader who develops and implements strategy and process and builds well-trained, resourceful and committed teams
dedicated to the success of the business.
In addition to his work in the corporate world, Jeff is on the Accounting Advisory Board at Santa Clara University.
He has also been active at St. Simon Parish in Los Altos on the Parish Finance Council, School Advisory Board and
Building Committee. In his spare time, he enjoys coaching youth sports - basketball and baseball, primarily.
Securities and Exchange Commission: Enforcement Division Overview and Recent Enforcement Development

Michael A. Fortunato is currently a Staff Accountant in the San Francisco District Office of the United States
Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement. In this role, he conducts investigations into
possible violations of federal securities laws.
Previous to joining the staff of the SEC, Michael was an Accounting Manager with Pacific Gas and Electric Company
where he coordinated the Sarbanes-Oxley compliance effort for PG&E's revenue organization. Before joining PG&E,
he was an Audit Senior Manager with Deloitte & Touche, San Francisco, specializing in the health and life sciences
industry. Previously, he held positions with Ernst & Young and Arthur Andersen. He holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in Accounting from Rutgers University, is a Certfied Public Accountant and is a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
In this seminar, Michael will talk about the SEC's overall mission, its divisional roles and responsibilities,
types of enforcement cases, a day in the life of an SEC accountant, the stock option backdating scandals and recently filed cases.
Accounting Information Night

Every February, the Accounting Department sponsors and organizes "Accounting Information Night" in which
professionals in the business community meet with sophomore business students to discuss different career
opportunities and career paths in the accounting profession. The objective of the event is to provide
students with pertinent information to help them decide whether they would wish to major in accounting.
This year, Accounting Information Night will take place on Thursday, February 8, in the California Mission Room
(formerly the Brass Rail) in Benson Memorial Center. Lewis Chew, CFO of National Semiconductor, will host the event.
Last year, about 190 students interacted with 60 accounting professionals from CPA firms and Silicon Valley corporations
and listened to presentations from four professionals who graduated with accounting majors.
