Course Objective

BUSN 71 is designed exclusively for freshmen business students and will provide a unique opportunity for you to hear up-close and personal stories of top leaders and scholars in the field of leadership. The course will focus on theories and models of leadership, explore age-old questions such as are leaders “born” or “made”, discover effective leadership styles, and determine the common characteristics of successful leaders. It should be a great opportunity for all of us to explore and learn about this important topic.

 

Important notes regarding BUSN 71
  • This is a required course for all freshmen students enrolled in the Leavey School of Business
  • All students in their first year must take this class, regardless of the number of units transferred into SCU.
  • The course is only offered in the Winter Quarter and is a 2-unit course that can be taken along with a full load of four, 4-unit classes
  • BUSN 70 is not a pre-requisite for enrollment in BUSN 71

First Class Session
  • The first class meets on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Music and Dance Building.
  • Additional class times will be explained at the first class session.
  • More information will be provided during the first few days of Winter Quarter. Please check your e-mail frequently for updates.

Is there a text for this course?
No. However, a leadership inventory, directed reading, and other materials will be provided at the first class session. There is a required $35 fee for these materials.

Who will be teaching the course?
The course will be facilitated by Dean Barry Posner and Brenda Versteeg, Assistant Director, Leavey School of Business. Additionally, your learning will come from the number of guest speakers and panelists that have been arranged for the course.
