Spring CIE Speaker Series with Nick Woodman
GoPro Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman (center) closes out the 2011-2012 CIE Speaker Series.
The final CIE Speaker Series of the 2011-2012 academic year went out with a loud, enthusiastic chant of GoPro as we welcomed Nick Woodman to campus. Nick shared the exciting evolution of GoPro, the world's leading activity image capture company.
The GoPro website says it best in a letter from Nick:
Think it. See it. Do it.
We dream. We have passionate ideas about what’s possible in this world. Our passions lead us to create experiences and realities that expand our world and inspire those around us.
GoPro helps people capture and share their lives’ most meaningful experiences with others—to celebrate them together. Like how a day on the mountain with friends is more meaningful than one spent alone, the sharing of our collective experiences makes our lives more fun.
The world’s most versatile cameras are what we make.
Enabling you to share your life through incredible photos and video is what we do.
This is your life…GoPro.

The Recital Hall was at a high energy level for this exciting evening, culminating with the CIE giveaway of three new HD Hero2 camera package bundles. Nick surprised us all with not only additional gear for the bundles but also by giving away one of everything they make-that's right...everything they make! Congratulations to undergraduate student Soledad O'Brien, who is pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship, our very lucky winner! We'd also like to congratulate Dina Ri, Angelica Valenta and Veaceslav Chistol on their new cameras! Nick's generosity didn't stop there, he continued to pull tickets and gave away camera bundles courtesy of GoPro. He also gave away one of the first original model Hero cameras (no longer available). The camera giveaways brought the excitement to a new level with the audience waiting for their number to be called and a very audible groan of disappointment and enthusiasm. And just when we thought he was finished, some of the students from the Outdoor Adventure Club were so inspired by Nick's presentation to go for it that when they asked if they could get an outdoor camera bundle for their club, he replied with an equally enthusiastic "yeah!"
Nick also stayed after the event posing for photos and chatting with members of the audience. His positive personality and joy for life was infectious. We're grateful for his generosity in both his products and his time.
