About Michele Ellie Ahi:  Presently Co-Founder and President of Technology for myBiograph, Inc., Ellie Ahi is also an Adjunct Professor in the SCU School of Engineering, and an Investor/Member of the Software Committee of Keiretsu Forum.  She was the Co-Founder and President of Technology for AppsClip, acquired in 2013.

About Carol Christopher:  Presently a founder in a stealth mode new venture, Carol has an extensive background in the BioPharma startup industry space, and in venture fund investment.  She holds a degree in Biochemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, a Masters degree from Regent College, and received a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.  Carol serves on the CIE Advisory Board and is active advising and mentoring participants in our California Program for Entrepreneurship.

About Doug Tsui:  

Doug is a networking industry veteran with over 15 years of marketing and business development experience and 14 years in venture capital management. He has broad knowledge and investment experience in the data networking, multimedia, and Internet Infrastructure area.

Doug’s prior operational roles included serving as VP of Marketing for Precept Software, a network video software company which was acquired by Cisco Systems in 1998. He was also VP of marketing and business development for First Virtual Communications. Prior to FVC, Doug was a senior business executive for the early years of Cisco Systems, 3Com/Bridge Communications, and Hewlett-Packard.

Doug has funded and worked with numerous high-tech startup companies as an angel investor prior to Horizon Ventures. He invested in companies such as AudioTalk(acquired by HearMe), Vertex Networks (acquired by Mitel Corp.), Rapidstream (acquired by WatchGuard), and Centrum Communications (acquired by 3Com).

Doug holds a B.S.E.E. degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a MBA degree from Santa Clara University. He is the past president and board member of the Asia America MultiTechnology Association (AAMA) and a current board member of Hong Kong-SV.com, a non-profit organization based in Silicon Valley.

Gloria WahlAbout Gloria Chen Wahl:Gloria Wahlis a Managing Director of IG Partners.  She joined in 2009 after 10 years as the Founder and Partner of AltoTech Ventures, LLC, an early stage venture fund focused on software, telecom and web-services. Gloria is very active in coaching start-up tech companies in Silicon Valley and focus on defining and setting strategic business direction, M&A, due diligence.

She was the former President and CEO of InterNex Information Services, Inc., a business oriented Internet-service provider, which she sold to Concentric Networks Inc. in 1998. She grew the business from zero to over $12 million in subscriber revenue in two years while building out the infrastructure and network backbone.  Her prior positions include Corporate Treasurer of Wyse Technology, Corporate Treasurer of Inmac Corp., and Director of Finance for CIS Leasing (aircraft), Vice President, and (Global Syndications) Manager of Wells Fargo Bank, responsible for portfolio in excess of $4.0 billion. 

Her financial background includes leasing, banking, trading, financial management and treasury.  Gloria holds a MBA from Rutgers University and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Santa Clara. She sits on the Board of The Enterprise Network (TEN), an incubator in Silicon Valley.

Stephen Troy established AeroFund Financial, Inc. in August, 1987.  His past business experience has been extensive.

In 1976 Steve founded a chain of three specialty restaurants which he owned and operated until 1979. Upon their sale he opened a vending business in San Jose, CA, which grew to be one of the largest such companies in the Bay Area.

Immediately after its sale in 1983, Troy founded Norstar Video, a landmark national video distribution company, specializing in the acquisition and sale of instructional video programming.

AeroFund Financial, Inc. followed, and as its founder and Chief Executive Officer, Troy has established AeroFund as a prominent national finance company, which provides secured loans to small and medium-sized businesses.

Mr. Troy is the founder and chairman of AeroBank.com. AeroBank is the first national business bank to be approved by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to operate solely on the internet.

Mr. Troy is the author of a book about business leaders titled Business Biographies, Shaken Not Stirred…With a Twist, which was published in February 2011.

Mr. Troy presently serves on the governing board of Junior Achievement of Northern California and is the past chairman of Junior Achievement of Silicon Valley Monterey Bay and the Northern California chapter of the Commercial Finance Association. He is also a member of the CIE Advisory Board.

Mr. Troy attended the University of Miami from 1971 to 1975 where he earned a BA in Business Administration majoring in Finance with a minor in History.


In addition, Steve's latest book  "Would a Maharaja Sleep Here: Diary of a Five Star Traveler"is now available.  Detailing some of their luxury vacation trips, Steve and his wife Leanne share their experiences.  His first book,"Business Biographies: Shaken, Not Stirred With a Twist"shares the stories of twenty-five business leaders who walked down non-traditional paths to success.

The CIE Office Hours for Entrepreneurs is a quarterly event designed to help keep your ideas and your venture moving forward, we hope you enjoy them. 
 
About Jim Thompson:  Jim Thompson brings more than 20 years of international experience developing and evaluating winning investment pitches and more than 10 years of business development experience.  He has written, pitched and evaluated hundreds of winning proposals, opportunity assessments, business plans and investor pitches.  His clients include companies seeking investments for products or businesses, as well as corporations and investors looking to evaluate investment opportunities.  Jim’s experience in both creating pitches and evaluating investments has helped him gain insights into some key factors for success, as well as blunders to avoid.  His areas of expertise include strategic planning, new product planning, marketing strategy and product/business opportunity assessments.

Jim is currently a Principal with Aquest Consulting, and was formerly a Director with Navigant Consulting's Life Science Strategy Practice, where he led the practice's business development activities.  Prior to Navigant, he was a Partner with Front Line Strategic Consulting and was instrumental in its growth and sale to Navigant Consulting. Jim earned an MBA from U.C. Berkeley and a BA in molecular biology/minor in chemistry from San Jose State University, and serves on the CIE Advisory Board.
