ABOUT SOCIETY OF YOUNG INKLINGS
Society of Young Inklings, LLC’s mission is to mentor young authors, ages 6-18, because learning to think creatively opens every door.
In order to achieve our goal, we develop and implement game-based writing curriculum and resources. We offer in-school and after school classes across the Bay Area, as well as one on one mentorships. We also offer a publishing program for young authors, which partners young authors with an adult writing mentor. For younger students, we offer a yearly anthology in which we publish their short stories after their mentorship. For older students, we publish full-length novels after their mentorship.
SUMMARY
The Finance Intern will collaborate directly with business owner, Naomi Kinsman Downing, to help analyze Society of Young Inklings’ current financial picture, streamline record keeping processes, and create a financial strategy for next program steps. As a 6-year-old maturing start-up, the company has a strong identity, reputation, and many assets, and is ready for development to the next phase. A candidate for this role will be a strong creative problem solver, an independent worker, skilled in Quickbooks, budgeting and financial analysis, and will be enthusiastic and energetic, ready to both identify business strengths and weaknesses as well proactive about carrying out real-world tasks.
Areas of focus for this internship include:
§ Review current financial picture and assess strengths and weaknesses
§ Review Quickbooks reporting structure and streamline
§ Collaborate with owner to create a realistic financial plan for next program steps
WHAT AN INTERN WILL GAIN
As a six-year-old small business, Society of Young Inklings is well established and has survived through the trial and error stage of growth. Through this project, a financial intern will be able to dive in, engage, and apply their skills in a real-world environment.
