On behalf of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, we'd like to share some of the exciting events of the last few months:
  • We're now accepting applications for the 2012 Cohort of the California Program for Entrepreneurship (CAPE).
  • Congratulations to the 2011 CAPE Cohort on their completion of the program.
  • Minor in Entrepreneurship:  We celebrated Global Entrepreneurship Week with the kickoff announcement of the new Minor in Entrepreneurship.
  • Startup Expo:  The return of Startup Expo brought nearly 60 local startups seeking interns to SCU to connect with students.
  • The CIE Speaker Series has welcomed Christopher W. Cabrera of Xactly Corp. during Global Entrepreneurship Week and Paul Holland in February for a private screening of Something Ventured
  • Together with the Graduate Business Programs Office, the 2012 Silicon Valley Regional of the VCIC was hosted at SCU's Leavey School of Business.  Congratulations to the SCU Team who competed in the West Regional of this exciting competition on their third place win (Entrepreneur's Choice).
  • CIE Office Hours for Entrepreneurs:  The CIE hosted SCU Alum Andy Bartley of The Angels Forum and The Halo Funds, who graciously donated his time for one-on-one office hour appointments both in Fall and Winter quarters.  We were also pleased to welcome VC Jared Hutchings of Peer Venture Partners, and Ed Wilson of Anthos Capital for office hours as well.
  • Field Trips:  The CIE has visited Google and LinkedIn and are in the process of finalizing our Spring quarter field trip.
  • We continue to expand internship and career offerings to students at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Alumni and community partners continue to contact the CIE with these opportunities, which we are happy to share with our students.
We look forward to an exciting Spring quarter as we continue to work to expand our curriculum offerings and cross-campus collaboration efforts.  Feel free to stop by and say hello!

Now Accepting Applications for 2012 CAPE Cohort

On behalf of the Leavey School of Business and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Santa Clara University, we are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2012 cohort of the California Program for Entrepreneurship (CAPE).

CAPE is a 6-month initiative for early-stage entrepreneurs in California who seek a dynamic and rigorous program in which to learn the fundamentals of starting and building a business. By providing business education and mentoring, it is the CAPE mission to help entrepreneurs develop and implement business plans to launch startups that will contribute to the growth and well-being of the California economy.

Candidates will be selected based on their personal backgrounds and experiences, the stage of development and likelihood for success of the business idea, and the potential contribution to the California economy. All candidates must complete an online application-this process includes multiple exercises designed to refine the candidate's business idea and assess the potential for a successful launch.

Applications accepted now through May 1, with the program set to begin with virtual exercises in June. For more information or to apply, please visit the CAPE page on the CIE website.

CIE Office Hours for Entrepreneurs Welcomes Andy Bartley, Jared Hutchings and Ed Wilson

In addition to ad hoc meetings with CIE Executive Director Dan Aguiar, the CIE also hosts quarterly Office Hours for Entrepreneurs. These events are made available to benefit students (both undergraduate and graduate) as well as alumni as they pursue their ventures and work through the startup process.  Sessions are twenty-minute, one on one appointments with Silicon Valley experts. How the time is spent is up to each person-feedback on your pitch, review of your business plan, fine tune your executive summary or answer whatever questions you may have.

The CIE would like to thank our volunteers who have graciously donated their time and talent for Fall and Winter Quarters:  Andy Bartley of The Angel's Forum/The Halo Funds, Ed Wilson of Anthos Capital, and Jared Hutchings of Peer Venture Partners.  Watch the CIE home page for our Spring Quarter Office Hours opportunity.
