So how does a Santa Clara University Physics professor make the jump to found one of the largest and most recognizable brands among action sports enthusiasts?  Attend the Spring CIE Speaker Series on April 28 to hear Geoff Fox '62, Santa Clara University graduate and former professor, share his story of the evolution of Fox Head Inc.,Fox logo one of the largest, if not the largest action sports clothing company still privately owned. 

Geoff’s exciting journey spans everything from capturing the National Hot Rod Association national record for both speed and elapsed time in the C gas coupes & sedans with a 1955 Chevy while a senior undergraduate student at SCU to becoming a partner of Grand Prix Cycles.  Geoff’s ride also includes a mail order motocross parts business, creation of a shop manual, his own catalog business: Moto-X Fox, creation of Fox Shox and Fox Airshox, Team Fox Racing and the evolution of Fox Head Inc. featuring clothing and accessories both functional for riders and fun for anyone off the track. 


Geoff received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Santa Clara University and his PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin (Madison) where he also did his post-doctoral work before coming back to Santa Clara University as a Physics Professor.  He and his wife, Josephine, will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary this year.  The couple has four children who all work full-time for Fox Head Inc., headquartered in Morgan Hill with additional offices in Newport Beach, California and Newcastle, UK.

During the last three decades, Fox Racing has become an international leader in the youth lifestyle clothing market with its famous Fox Head logo seen worldwide. In doing so, the family has held steadfast to Geoff Fox's original goal of making the best motocross products money can buy.*

Sarah Miller Caldicott

Sarah Miller Caldicott, Founder, President & CEO of Power Patterns of Innovation.  Great grandniece of Thomas Edison and Mina Miller Edison, Sarah Miller Caldicott has been surrounded by creativity and innovation throughout her life.  Her great grandfather, Lewis Miller, was an agricultural equipment inventor, was the recipient of 92 patents and inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2006.   


Join us for an informative presentation during which Caldicott, will share Edison's Five Competencies of Innovation(tm).  These five competencies propelled Edison to a record 1,093 US patents as well as 1,293 international patents.

Sarah began her 20-year career as a Marketing executive with brand-driven firms including Pepsico and Unilever. For 12 years, Sarah spearheaded domestic and international rollouts of mass brands including Cycle, Suave, Salon Selectives, and Degree. While serving as an International Marketing Director for Unilever’s Helene Curtis subsidiary, Sarah’s teams pioneered the company's first international relaunch of its flagship Finesse brand across three continents, requiring coordination with global advertising agencies DDB Needham Worldwide and Dentsu. 


Desiring to pursue more entrepreneurial projects, in 1998, Sarah established StarWave Associates, a strategic marketing and branding consultancy assisting CEO’s and business owners in transforming the growth of their brands. StarWave clients have included DHL Global Mail, Cox Enterprises, Andrx Pharmaceuticals, Shay Financial Services, and Lucent, as well as numerous entrepreneurial firms. 

Co-author of a groundbreaking book on Thomas Edison’s innovation best practices, entitled Innovate Like Edison: The Success System of America’s Greatest Inventor, Sarah speaks to audiences across the country, and leads executive seminars on how to embed Edison’s Five Competencies of Innovation in their organizations. 

Sarah also shares with leaders how they can use Edison’s time-tested methods to create innovation literacy in their organizations, as well as develop corporate innovation infrastructure to propel them toward innovation success.  She advises executives and business owners on how to design teams for maximum innovation impact, “re-wire” their cultures to create a 21st century innovation powerhouse, and hire collaborative employees that will thrive in an innovation-driven culture. 

Born and raised in the Midwest, Sarah received a BA from Wellesley College, where she was named a Wellesley College Scholar.  She also holds an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth

Global Entrepreneurship Week Photos

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an international initiative featuring innovation- and entrepreneurship-themed events taking place in over 70 countries.  The mission is to:
  • Inspire: Introduce the notion of enterprising behavior to as many people under the age of 30 who otherwise might not have considered entrepreneurship as a path in life.
  • Connect: Connect young people across national boundaries in a global effort to find new ideas at the intersection of cultures and disciplines.
  • Inform: Demonstrate that the drive to nuture enterprising talent needs business, education, government, voluntary organizations and the media to work together.
  • Mentor: Enlist active and inspirational entrepreneurs around the world to coach and mentor the next generation of enterprise talent as they pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

CIE Speaker Series

On a quarterly basis, the CIE hosts the CIE Speaker Series- informative, entertaining events that feature a dynamic, leading entrepreneur or leader in innovation sharing experiences and advice with the SCU community, generating awareness of the role played by and importance of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Target Audience
The audience for the CIE Speaker Series includes SCU students and faculty as well as invited guests from the Silicon Valley business community and the CIE Advisory Board.

Format
The CIE Speaker Series provides attendees a unique opportunity to hear a first-hand account of stories in start-ups and breakthroughs in innovation and technology including challenges and lessons learned.  Presenters typically provide a 45 minute presentation followed by an informative 15 minute Question & Answer session.
