About William T. Cleary
Bill Cleary established the William T. Cleary Professorship to honor a senior faculty member whose teaching and research embodies the innovative approach to business that is a hallmark of his career.
Cleary began his advertising career working on such noteworthy brands as Pepsi, Pizza Hut, Welch Foods, and Standard Brands. He held senior positions at ActiVision and was a member of the senior marketing team at Apple Computer when it was a new company. In 1987, he founded CKS Partners, a firm dedicated to expanding the definition and practice of marketing in the Silicon Valley.
Under his leadership, CKS opened branch offices across the U.S. and overseas, and was involved in numerous hardware, software, and peripheral product launches. The company was a recognized leader in the emerging web marketing industry, synthesizing traditional marketing with Internet communication techniques. The company was purchased in 1998 by U.S. Web, the Internet marketing consulting company, and Bill continued to consult and serve on a variety of non-profit and start-up company boards.
About a decade later, Cleary founded (and continues to head) Cleary & Partners, a small marketing firm based in the San Francisco Bay Area, specializing in marketing strategy, branding, web development, and tactical execution of business-to-business marekting communications.
Cleary holds bachlor's and master's degrees in anthropology from State University of New York-Buffalo, and was a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Egypt in 1977.
