  •  Hunger Week; Volunteer to Bag Beans!

     

     

    Want to directly help prevent hunger in your local community? As part of Hunger Week, you  can volunteer to bag beans for our local farm workers! We will be redistributing 300 lbs. of pinto beans into portions of beans for a family of four and then taking them to local farms and handing them out to the workers.

    When?

    Wednesday May 22nd from 4:00pm to 6:00pm

    Where?

    The Forge!

    Why?

    You can directly help your local community,

    whether it’s for five minutes or an hour, it’s up to you!

     

    It is also a way to get involved with SCU’s newest club BTGAP, Bridging the Gap to Alleviating Poverty. The club has a lot of opportunities available for its members, so get involved now!

    There will be snacks provided courtesy of BTGAP.

  •  Hunger Week's Food for Thought: Feeding10Billion

     

     

    Curious about how we will be able to feed the exponentially growing world population? You won’t want to miss the 2nd event of SCU’s Hunger Week then.  As part of the “Food for Thought” lecture series, Paul Matteucci from Feeding10Billion will be speaking about his project. His project looks into finding solutions for this concern; not to mention many of his innovative ideas are currently used by several food systems entrepreneurs.

    When?

    Tuesday May 21st at 7:00pm

    Where?

    Lucas Hall, Rm. 106

    Why?

    This talk will provide fascinating ideas and insights into one of the world’s largest concerns.

    It is also a way to get involved with SCU’s newest club BTGAP, Bridging the Gap to Alleviating Poverty. The club has a lot of opportunities available for its members, so get involved now!

  •  Hunger Week: Documentary Screening

     

     

    Make sure you don’t miss out on the first event of Santa Clara’s Hunger Week. The viewing will be of “A Place at the Table,” a documentary that focuses on poverty, hunger, and under-nutrition in America.  Shockingly, there are “50 million people in the U.S.- one in four children- don’t know where their next meal is coming from, despite our having the means to provide nutritious, affordable food for all Americans.” This documentary will open your eyes to a growing problem in the United States that needs to be dealt with now.

    Monday May 20th  at 7:00pm

    Where?

    Kennedy Commons

    Why?

    This is a growing problem in our country and it needs people like you to solve it. This film is inspiring and has an interesting, eye-opening message.

    It is also a way to get involved with SCU’s newest club BTGAP, Bridging the Gap to Alleviating Poverty. The club has a lot of opportunities available for its members, so get involved now!

    Food?

    If you’re not already convinced to come, there will be free snacks courtesy of BTGAP.

  •  BTGAP: Officially a Club!

    Curious about  how YOU can help fight hunger? Want to know what local companies are doing to help with poverty? Are you interested in getting more involved on campus? Join BTGAP. We have some cool events planned for Spring Quarter, like movie screenings, newsletters, volunteering with the local Second Harvest Food Bank, and a week of events to educate students about global and domestic hunger. Get excited for 8 weeks (and many more) of learning about the causes of poverty, and how we can make a lasting change! We're having our first meeting next Thursday at 8pm, location TBD ...but you will know as soon as we do! Don't forget to check out our FaceBook page!!
