From the Assistant Director:

Welcome back to SCU!

Have you been wondering about the next step in your career? Have you been wondering what types of career services the Graduate Business Programs (GBP) Office offers its students?

A complete list of services is available at
http://www.scu.edu/business/graduate-careers/resources/index.cfm.

A complete list of upcoming events is available at
http://www.scu.edu/business/graduate-careers/events/index.cfm.

There is a lot of information to go through on these links, so let me highlight a few services that I think would be most beneficial to you.

Recommendations for Full-time Students:

  • Job Board Graduate Business Career Management (GBCM) sends out full-time job postings daily. Please email AnaKarina with your student ID# if you would like to sign up to receive these postings.

  • Internship Distribution List Bay Area employers interested in recruiting Santa Clara Universitys students send GBCM internship postings throughout the entire year! If you would like to receive these internship opportunities, please send AnaKarina an email with your student ID# and expected graduation date.

  • Career Assessments GBCM offers an assessment tool that was specifically designed for MBAs. The tool measures interests, values, and skills and, based on your responses, will offer you some possible career matches. Assessment is an essential part of the job search process and curriculum planning. Email AnaKarina if you would like access to this tool.

  • Career Planning Workshops - Plan to attend one of these workshops during your first year. This workshop will walk you through the job search process, from assessments to negotiating the offer.

  • Networking Workshops Attending this workshop is essential to your success in the program and in your career management. Learn the basics of networking and how to work the room.

  • Interviewing Workshops – This workshop is generally offered in the Winter quarter. It provides students with information and strategies on how to make a good first impression and how to land the job!

  • Happy Hour Plan to attend at least one of the GBP Offices happy hours this year. Start mingling and networking with your fellow students and alumni as soon as you can.

  • Career Fairs The Career Center will be hosting a Graduate Business Career Fair on October 13, 2005. This is a great opportunity to find out about the latest careers in many premier organizations.

  • On-campus Interviewing (OCI) Program – Some employers periodically interview MBA students on-campus. Make sure you have signed up with MonsterTrak to receive reminders from me about the deadlines for resume submission and instructions on how to sign up.

  • Career Consultations – GBCM offers hour-long counseling sessions on all aspects of the job search or any other career management issue. Call Nelson Rodrigues at 408-554-5485 to schedule an appointment with AnaKarina.
