Graduate Business Admissions - International Applicants

International Applicants

In addition to submitting general application materials, international students should be aware of the requirements below. (Links to external websites will open in a new window; you may have to temporarily disable pop-up blockers to view.)

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
Applicants whose first language is not English (regardless of whether your schooling was in English) must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and have ETS send the scores directly to Santa Clara University, Institution Code 4851, Department 02. A minimum TOEFL score of 250 is required on the computer based exam, or 100 on the new IBT test. The TOEFL may be waived if the applicant receives a score in the 50th percentile or higher on the verbal portion of the GMAT.

Visas
Foreign-born applicants requesting student visas (F-1) must submit a financial statement showing adequate funds for tuition, fees, and living expenses for the first year of the two-year program. F-1 applicants must be enrolled in at least nine (9) units per quarter. See the University's website for international students for more information regarding student visas.

If you are accepted to the Leavey School of Business, you need to complete the I-20 Request Form in addition to the Financial Resource Statement and include official documents verifying funds to cover tuition and expenses for the first year of the two-year MBA program. These documents cannot be more than 90 days old. If you are being sponsored by another person, you need to submit a letter or Affidavit of Support from that individual or institution stating that he or she will sponsor you, as well as financial documents in the sponsor's name to show funding for the first year of the program.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  International students who are studying on the F-1 visa are not eligible for the MBA PACE Program.  Work experience is an important perspective to bring to the Santa Clara University MBA Program.  With fewer than two years of experience, and the F-1 Visa requirement to be in school full time, it is difficult for the International student to gain as much from the program as their working peers.  We encourage international students to consider the Evening MBA Program once they have a few years of professional experience.  If you have questions, please contact us at mbaadmissions@scu.edu

Financial Aid
We regret financial aid is not available for non-US citizens, except in cases where they have attained Permanent Resident status and have made application for citizenship. For more information, please contact the Graduate Business Admissions and Financial Aid, Leavey School of Business, 408-554-4539.

Curriculum
The Santa Clara MBA program recognizes the increasing importance of obtaining an international perspective on business and society. Students are exposed to multinational business issues and multicultural perspectives in many of the required courses. Most departments offer electives focusing on international issues from a disciplinary or functional perspective.

Students are strongly encouraged to include at least one of these courses among their 24 elective units or in their selections from the accounting and finance menus. Students may also select a concentration in international business, which explores functional issues within a global perspective and examines cross-disciplinary international topics.
