As you probably know, the search for the next LSB Dean has begun. The Provost has appointed a committee of seven faculty members (five from the LSB) and two external members (one from the Board of Trustees and one from the Board of Fellows). Over the summer, the committee will start identifying candidates and refining the set of attributes we would like our next Dean to possess.
Before we disperse for the summer, the committee would like to invite you to an open meeting to discuss your views regarding essential characteristics of the next Dean, challenges facing the LSB, and things that make the LSB an exciting place that is attractive to candidates. I will also be happy to answer any of your questions about the search process.
When: Tuesday, June 10, 7 pm to 8 pm
Where: Transamerica Room, St. Joseph's Hall
If you aren't able to attend this meeting, but would like to provide some input on these topics, or wish to nominate someone for the position, please feel free to contact me at sstarbird@scu.edu or 408-554-4148.
I am looking forward to working with all of you to find a new leader for the LSB.
Best,
Drew Starbird
Chair, LSB Dean Search Committee
Professor of OMIS
Faculty Director, LSB Undergraduate Business Programs
The complete 2008-2009 schedule will be available by June 30th. This delay is due to the change in class meeting times effective Fall 2008 and the move to Lucas Hall. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We are all excited about moving into the new Business School in fall quarter.
Moving into a new building has given us an opportunity to evaluate various aspects of our operations. One of those aspects is the evening class times for MBA/MSIS courses. For many years our class times have been 5:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. (changed to 7:05 p.m. a few years ago), and 8:30 p.m.
Beginning with fall quarter 2008, we will be changing the Evening Graduate Business class times to:
5:45-7:00 p.m. (Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday)
7:20-8:35 p.m. (Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday)
The rationale for the change is as follows:
Many of you have a difficult time getting here on time for 5:30 p.m. classes; an extra 15 minutes will cut down on late arrivals.
As students, you had an expectation of the number of 8:30 p.m. course offerings which could not be met by the number of faculty willing to teach at 8:30 p.m. This resulted in student dissatisfaction and frustration with scheduling on the part of both parties.
This change allows for more flexibility in the scheduling of one night a week classes and the possibility of additional Saturday classes. For example, classes formerly taught at 8:30 p.m. might be restructured as one-night-a-week classes (which conceivably could begin at 7:20 p.m.), or as Saturday classes, which are in greater demand by those students who appreciate the flexibility of classes that meet once a week.
We do not expect that this change will adversely affect either class sizes or the availability of classes. This is going to be a positive change but we recognize that a few of you will not find this change desirable. We appreciate your patience as we go through the transition.
Finally, because of this change, the 2008-09 class schedule has been delayed. We will have a schedule posted by the end of May.
Best wishes;
Elizabeth Ford
Assistant Dean
Graduate Business Programs
