Preparing for Graduation : Academic and Administrative FAQs
How many graduate commencement ceremonies does SCU host per year?
SCU hosts one graduate commencement ceremony each year. It is held in June at the end of the spring quarter.
Who is eligible to participate in the June 2012 SCU Commencement Ceremony?
Graduate Business students completing their degree requirements in September 2011, December 2011, March 2012, and June 2012 are eligible to participate in the June 2012 Commencement Ceremony.
What do I need to do to participate in the June 2012 SCU Commencement Ceremony?
First, you will need to complete an online Petition to Graduate by the published deadline.
Next, you will need to complete the University Event Planning Office’s online commencement response form by the published deadline (this form will be available in Spring 2012).
May I still participate in commencement activities if I have not completed all of my graduation requirements?
If you plan to graduate in September 2012 and will complete all of your remaining degree requirements by September 30, you may petition to participate in the June 2012 commencement ceremony when you submit your Petition to Graduate. Students planning to complete their degrees in December 2012 or later will participate in the June 2013 Commencement Ceremony.
Why is it important to submit my petition by the deadline?
Each spring, the University Event Planning Office sends out commencement packets to all students who have petitioned to graduate. Students who submit their graduation petitions late will not receive this information and may miss the opportunity for their names to be listed in the SCU Commencement Book.
What if my plans change after I have petitioned to graduate and I wish to graduate in a different quarter?
If you wish to change your anticipated graduation date, you will need to submit a new online Petition to Graduate and notify the Graduate Business Programs Office at email@example.com
What do I do if my diploma mailing address changes after I have submitted my Petition to Graduate?
Your diploma will be mailed to the address indicated in your Petition to Graduate. If your diploma mailing address changes, it is your responsibility to the Graduate Business Programs Office at the Graduate Business Programs Office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When can I expect to receive my diploma?
The Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma approximately four months after your graduation date.
When will I be able to request a final official transcript?
In order for concentrations to be listed on your transcript, you will need to print out a Concentration Petition in Schedulaid and submit it to the Graduate Business Programs Office. [It is helpful to submit this at the same time as your Petition to Graduate.] Instructions for printing Concentration Petitions in Schedulaid are available online and in the Graduate Business Programs Office.
I would like a concentration(s) to be listed on my official transcript. What do I need to do?
In order for concentrations to be listed on your transcript, you will need to submit a Concentration Petition Form to the Graduate Business Programs Office. [It is helpful to submit this at the same time as your Petition to Graduate.]
Will concentrations appear on my diploma?
Concentrations are listed on students’ official transcripts, not their diplomas.
Will my employer be notified when I graduate from the program?
Students may request a letter to be sent to their employer confirming that they have earned their MBA or MSIS degree when submitting their online Petition to Graduate.
What honors are available to graduating Graduate Business students?
The following honors are awarded at the completion of the program.
- The Home Stretch (Belotti Awards) This award honors the top Capstone group in each section of MGMT 619, which students take at the end of the program. The recipients of this award are selected by the Capstone professors. Each member of the Capstone group receives a complimentary ticket to the GBP Crab Feast. This award is given quarterly.
- Dean’s Leadership Award Each year, upon the recommendation of the faculty and fellow students, the Dean may name one or more students to receive recognition for their contribution to the program, school, community, and/or corporate world. These may be given, for example, for extraordinary service, leadership, innovation, and audacity. Students are recognized in June of each year.
- Beta Gamma Sigma Awards Beta Gamma Sigma is the national scholastic honor society for students of business. Election to membership is the highest scholastic honor a student of business can achieve. Membership is limited to outstanding students who rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating class per quarter. Students are recognized in January/or February and June/or July of each year.
What career services are available after graduation?
