THREE EASY STEPS FOR SUMMER CAREER MANAGEMENT

It's summer. You have your priorities, and they involve the out-of-doors and water. And yet, there is that little voice at the back of your head saying: "Maybe I should be looking for work. I know I need to think about my post-MBA/MS job. Come graduation, I will really want to be working in. . ." Why not do both?

# 1 FOCUS AND CLARIFY CAREER GOALS

  • Review your CareerLeader results—get a refresher on your interests, motivators, and abilities. Click through the links on Industry Sketches, Career Culture, Leadership Skills and Your Job Search Strategy. (If you haven't taken CareerLeader and would like to, fill out your request here at the Career Leader section in the GBP Careers Student subsite »

#2 BECOME A LINKEDIN POWER USER

  • Update your Linked In profile and add 10 new connections. Make an appointment with us if you need assistance with this.
  • Come up with a list of 10-15 companies you would like to target next year. Start using Linkedin to research the companies and see which alumni work at those companies and whom you might want to connect with in the future. You can also follow the company to see who is getting hired and who is leaving.
  • Utilize the resources at Beyond B. School to improve your profile, find alumni using LI, and conduct company research to build your company list at: http://santaclara.beyondb-school.com/Login.aspx

#3 BUILD YOUR NETWORK
Make it a point to meet one new person every week in the field of your interest. Networking now will pay off later. Engage with the SCU community to facilitate your networking by joining these 3 SCU LinkedIn groups:

Santa Clara University Graduate Business Career Management
Job postings are posted here, in addition to the official university job board, Broncolink.

Santa Clara University & Alumni Association (Official)
The official University Alumni LI group: open to all currently enrolled students and provides access to over 8,000 alumni.

SCU School of Business
