Galen Kim Davis

Galen was born in Oklahoma, but moved to Texas at the ripe old age of two. he would stay there for the next 22 years with the exception of a two-year trip to Las Vegas, several summer trips to South Korea, and some U.S. Army time. He graduated from the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science and then went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. Galen moved to California in 1999 because the woman he loved was moving west. So he begged her to marry him and allow him to follow her to California. She assented and has had the courtesy to stay married to him since then.

Professionally, Galen had a good run at Andersen Consulting before it became Accenture. He was promoted ahead of his peer group and was always rated in the top decile for his grade. Heeding the siren call of the dot com boom, Galen joined Kinceta Software as a manager in the engineering department and managed to produce quarterly product releases for three products for several years without too high of a casualty count. Kinceta's customer base dissolved and the company was bought by a content management system vendor in Minnesota. Galen then scratched his entrepreneurial itch and founded a retail business specializing in coffee, tea, and tapioca drinks. He thought about opening new outlets, but instead decided to pursue the Santa Clara MBA and sold the business shortly thereafter.

Galen is scheduled to graduate with the Santa Clara MBA in June 2008. He is pursuing accounting and finance concentrations, and also plans to take the CPA exam in March 2008. He is looking for full-time employment to begin after graduation. Galen's primary concerns with GSAC are enhancing transparency between administration and student body, improving the Santa Clara MBA brand, and insuring that student voices are incorporated into administration decision-making processes.

Galen has little time for hobbies, but enjoys reading, good conversation, cooking, hiking, sports, and computer games. He has been married since 1999 and has one son who is not yet school age.
