The Ripple Effect of GWLN: Microloans to Mothers

Our third story highlighting "The Ripple Effect of Global Women Leaders" features Meg North Taylor, Executive Director of Lending Promise. Meg graduated from GWLN's inaugural leadership program in 2005. Inspired by that experience, Meg founded Lending Promise and expanded her vision to help women in Nepal and India.

Helping Children Starts With Helping MothersMeg North Taylor HR

As the mother of a young daughter, Meg wanted all children to have the same unlimited opportunities as her child. She formed Lending Promise to provide microloans to mothers with small children. The majority of recipients live on less than one dollar a day. Microloans create incomes for mothers to invest in their children's education, which result in better lives and greater choices for them in the future.

"GWLN has helped me approach my work more creatively and persistently. The poor don't want handouts. They want to find ways to take charge of their finances - and their lives." -- Meg North Taylor

Financial Independence Through Microloans

Lending Promise made its first microloans to mothers in Nepal and began serving women in India in 2009. Mothers are investing in education, nutrition and improvements for their families. Literacy education and business counseling are available to ensure women have the tools they need to be financially independent and succeed.

One Woman. One Ripple Effect. Thousands of Brighter Futures.

Meg's vision to give all children the right to dream by empowering mothers created a ripple effect that is expected to lead to higher literacy rates, better health and stronger economies. To date, more than 1,000 women in Nepal and India have received loans, improving the lives of over 6,000 individuals in some of the poorest areas in the world.
