About the Director
John Toppel Dean's Executive Professor of Management Director of International Programs John Toppel is a Dean’s Executive Professor of Management in the Leavey School of Business. Mr. Toppel is a 31-year veteran of Hewlett Packard in Sales Management, Manufacturing Management and General Management. During his tenure, he spent 12 years in international assignments in Hong Kong, Australia, Mexico, Switzerland and Korea.
After retiring from HP, Mr. Toppel spent a year as a visiting Business Fellow at Villanova University, teaching international business courses and doing career counseling. While teaching Contemporary American Business (BUSN 70), since 2005, he managed the international program at Menlo College and has now joined Santa Clara University on a full-time basis. He will be teaching International Management (MGMT 80), BUSN 70, and will be working as the Career Center Liaison for the Leavey School, Consulting with the Undergraduate Peer Advising Program and Coordinating International Business Programs for undergraduates.
Mr. Toppel has lead student trips to El Salvador and recently lead an MBA program which visited Korea, Singapore and Vietnam.
Mr. Toppel is a graduate of John Carroll University and received his master’s degree in Counseling from San Jose State University. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society, The National Career Development Association (NCDC), The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Mr. Toppel also participated, on-camera, in "Going International", a 4-part training film for expatriate managers.
