Students Brenda Alba and Andrew Peterson Seleted as First Chevron Global Fellows
Thursday, Apr. 28, 2011
Students Andrew Peterson and Brenda Alba have been selected as the first Chevron Global Fellows in the Leavey School of Business Global Fellows program. Chevron Corporation recently became a corporate sponsor of the Global Fellows program, which places undergraduates with international not-for-profit organizations during the summer. The pair will work with Blue Energy, a company providing safe water resources and rural electrification through solar and wind power to Bluefields, Nicaragua and its surrounding villages, in eastern Nicaragua this summer. There they will help produce more than 200 family water filtration systems and lead water- safety seminars.
Global Fellows students met with one of Chevron’s top executives in April. David Reeves, president of the Strategy, Technology, and Commercial Integration business for Chevron and a member of the Leavey Advisory Board, was a guest speaker in the Global Fellows class, speaking about growing global energy requirements. In preparation, the students completed an energy simulation game before class and read a report from the National Petroleum Council titled “Facing the Hard Truths about Energy.”
