LSB Green Case Team is National Champion

Friday, Jan. 28, 2011

Four accounting juniors took first place in KPMG's recent national "Living Green" case competition, beating out eight teams from other schools across the U.S. including Fordham University and UC Berkeley.

Katelyn Daley, Rebecca Tien, Shannon Wang and Linda Young--all officers in the student-led Accounting Association--developed their project to improve environmental and sustainability programs at Santa Clara. Their idea was to create a "Bronco Urban Garden Day of Awareness."

The Bronco Urban Garden (BUG) is a partnership between SCU's Environmental Studies Institute and the Silicon Valley HealthCorps. BUG also oversees the Forge Garden, SCU's half-acre education and community garden on the corner of Benton and Sherman streets. Read more about The Forge here >>

The team won $1,000 to implement the Day of Awareness, which the women say will likely be held in Spring Quarter.

This is the second year KMPG has sponsored the "Living Green" case competition, designed to address issues raised by the "College Sustainability Report Card" from the Sustainable Endowments Insitutute.
