The undergraduate business program at Santa Clara University is #39 in the nation, according to “Best Undergrad B-Schools” rankings released last night by Bloomberg BusinessWeek magazine.

Based on surveys of students, recruiters, and data such as test scores and starting salaries for new graduates, the editors assessed more than 100 undergraduate programs across the U.S.

This year, Leavey School of Business rated straight “As” from the editors in the three categories they measured: teaching quality, facilities and services, and job placement.

Noting the Leavey School’s emphasis on engagement with real world issues, one student surveyed said “Any school can teach you how to climb the corporate ladder, but I’ve come out of this business program with an acute awareness of where my talents and responsibilities intersect with the world’s needs.”

School administrators agreed. “The BusinessWeek survey highlights what Silicon Valley has known for quite awhile: Santa Clara University business graduates are uniquely prepared to add value to any organization they join,” said Drew Starbird, interim dean of the Leavey School of Business. “Our graduates have mastered theory and practice from a global perspective founded on Jesuit ethical traditions. They take their skills into the workplace ready to create purpose as well as capital.”

This is the fourth consecutive year the Leavey School of Business undergraduate program has been ranked by the magazine. The “Best Undergraduate Business Schools” issue will be on newsstands on Friday, March 5, 2010.
